Default VVEL Tuning

The potential ability to program intake lift through the separate VVEL computer and the ECU looks exciting. Hopefully the code gets cracked so tuners can reprogram for more power. Even without reprogramming there seems to be some potential in making small mechanical adjustments. The fulcrum adjusting screws for the intake valves in the VVEL mechanism appear to offer some tuning potential. It looks like maximum intake lift and duration can be increased by uniformly tightening the fulcrum screws. Unfortunately we don’t have that same option with the exhaust valves as they are controlled by a more conventional camshaft. A small increase in intake lift might be significant in max power output even with the stock exhaust cam. I fully expect to see a lot more power developed from naturally aspirated VQ37VHR engines as we learn how to make them sing.
