Can you DIY tune with EcuTek?
I cannot find any info on this. But if I pay $900 for ecutek with the race ROM can I tune it myself? I can't imagine paying that much for a flash and then not having full control.
I see the Subaru guys can but I can't find anything g about the Z version. |
No.

Welp, cross that off the list... What a joke.
|
It's still a better software than uprev even if you have to go to someone to tune it.
|
No, it's worthless if I cannot tune it. Tunes over email are a joke.
|
Why would you e tune it rather than taking it somewhere?

Maybe I'll buy a motorcycle for someone else to ride for me also. |

Dyno tuning time is usually included in the $900 or less price tag for an ecutek tune. |
I think you can tune it as long as you have correct hardware and software.

Closed system. Boooo! |
I thought the decrypting and modify is part of the key. if you have the key you should be able to do anything.
|
They apply their own encryption to the ROM I think. It's beyond the keys to get the ECU to dump the ROM over J2534. Then you have to know the locations of the maps in the ROM etc, and their tuner software does that.
I'd gladly pay the money for the software if I could modify the maps and settings. It's not easy to do what they did. |
If you'd gladly pay, then call em up and get the software
|
Or contact vitviper and buy a motec from him

I think you have to become an EcuTek Tuner and buy the "professional" software to get full tuning capabilities.

They're pretty responsive over email.

They have a page on becoming a licensed tuner but pretty sure you need a shop or some setup of that nature. I assume it isn't cheap either. Not sure where the $900 comes in unless that includes dyno time. A full e-tune with custom maps including updates for a year from Specialty Z is about $650, and worth every dollar of that. Previously had the Uprev tuner package so I could do it myself but everything with them was suck a cluster fvck I went with Ecutek and haven't looked back. |
You do have to become a licensed tuner and it is not cheap lol. Ecutek is superior to programs like Osiris but unless you're boosted Osiris is the better deal.

Some of us have no choice, but to tune by email. It's not ideal, but it beats driving 500 miles to a mediocre tuner or 1500 miles to someone who is good.
Yes, I agree there are many of us who could tune it ourselves, but Ecutek like many companies believes there is a larger value in having a "dealer" network. |
