Angry WARNING with new UpRev update, you loose your tune!

Hi,

I am writing this topic with hope that UpRev read this and propose a tool or a service to convert old maps to the new one.

The problem is simple:

I have upgraded my software, obviously I make a backup of the old one.

BUT! In the new upgrade, automatically starts a Firmware upgrade of the cable.... so, the old backups became unusable....

I write to James to tell me how I can convert my old 5 maps tune to the new ROM.

The reply: "There is no way of converting the timing from the old style to the new you will have to tune again for the other 4 timing maps."

After that I wrote again asking if it's possible to return to the old version:

The reply: "There is no other way around it you must re tune if you want the other 4 maps to have different timing tables."

NOW, I HAVE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY IN DYNO TO MAKE MY TUNE!
Uprev with an update threw in the trash my work.....

So, I think that it's not only my problem. Every tune made with UpRev, if you upgrade the software, you loose 4 TA Tables....

I am angry.....

Can you not copy your old tune manually from your old timing maps to a new file using uprev tuner? Or are you not able to open the file because it's password protected?

Why are you bothering with UpRev on this platform? They've given this platform a big **** you with garbage software until they got serious competition from overseas.

Default in UpRev defense

Hey guys, we have heard great feedback from our tuners regarding our new simplified timing algortihm that everyone has been asking for. Please see our FaceBook page for my details. The new timing tables make the car run much smoother, and have many benefits. You don't loose your tune file, you just need to have your tuner adjust the timing tables (nothing else), and since there are so many timing corrections, it can probably be done without the use of the dyno, by simply looking at previous logs from your car or your old tune file. Your tuners were also sent instructions on how to transfer your old tune files to the new ones, I know this because I made it myself, as well as the simplified timing algorithm. Sorry we wanted to make you guys happy by having complete control of timing, sorry you think "UpRev f****d up"

UpRev didn't start offering new features because of ecutek; they started offering new features due to a change in management. You should probably do some fact checking before slandering the company.

I am not criticizing the technical improvement of ROM Editor.

At begin I was very happy to know that Uprev finally starts to use degrees instead milliseconds in TA maps (like Ecutek)

I am in complete disagreement to the marketing strategy !!

The upgrade is a good features IF IT DOES NOT DESTROY your work (..and money..)

So, if automatic update proposes an upgrade, it's mandatory that old maps are fully compatible!

In another way, is it not technically possible?
Well Uprev must release the ROMEditor v2.0 and specify that IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE !

My tuner says me that dyno it's necessary.... ....it is not safe to adjust TA using the sentiment....

Dang that's kinda shitty. They should warn before updating that you will lose all previous work. I guess it isn't totally uncommon for some updates to no longer be compatible, my friend uses hondata and I guess there is a similar thing with his too so he didn't update as he didn't want to lose all his work but would also like to have latest tech. Good to know for new users that it looks like uprev will be competing again (competition is always good for the consumer) just sucks for previous users.

So with this said, does it not stand to reason that for those of us who have the tuner cable and have the capabilities to handle the tuning ourselves (not saying that I can at all) you should be able to give the people who ask for instructions to transfer their old tune files to the new ones? Only seems like the right thing to do.

I am happy UpRev is finally allowing for VVEL control and have added their ARC features but until they can offer flex fuel tuning and lets say the throttle hijack and full control of the traction system then there will be plenty of us still looking the other way. Keep the updates coming and hopefully we will all praise your name once again!

That would make too much sense.

In my opinion, any costs one derives from this would be better put towards an Ecutek license.

if I'm allowed to speak my opinion; by looking over datalogs of the previous tune and seeing the ignition advance the car ran at the time you are able to make your old timing table. UpRev did not send a blank timing table all new roms come with a pre-filled timing table that is actually really good. if you are N/A and your tuner does not want to take a datalog of your WOT pulls along with your steady state adjustments and adjust the base map accordingly he is just milking you.

if any of my customers tuned with the older ARC features want to "upgrade" to the new timing feature I'll be able to do it without having to put their car on the dyno by doing what I said above, to be quite honest it'll run exactly the same.

if your car is F.I. I can understand his concern, however it's the same principle. datalogs will show the actual ignition advance and he should be able to re-create the ignition map relatively quickly. (maybe an hour?) paste your MAF, Fuel & Injector settings into the new map and send you on your way, a few datalogs can show any adjustments (if any) that will need to be made.

as far as all the guys doing their own tuning, just look at your old logs. your ignition advance will be shown there, paste all your fuel settings manually into the new rom and be about your way. if you can tune your own car I'm sure you can change the settings over. if my input is not appreciated or welcomed I'll be more than happy to delete this post. I'm just trying to help you guys copy your maps over to the new features and move forward.

It should be fairly easy to set up a spreadsheet to convert advance from milliseconds to degrees. Convert RPM to mS/degCrankRotation (off the top of my head: RPM / 60000 mSec/min / 360 deg/revolution). Multipy result by your table value (ms) to get degAdvance.

Bold statement. I don't need to fact check a damn thing. I stated my opinion. Anyone with a brain could of come to the same conclusion. Here I'll spell it out for you:

- We purchased UpRev years ago. Found it extremely poor on the Nissan stuff.
- Zero new development, zero new features
- Ended up purchasing ECUTek which had a real timing map, advanced features.
- ECUTek works great, gets great praise for their system and their features
- Months/years later UpRev starts releasing similar updates just on the G37/370Z platform (don't see it on the 350Z... lolz?).

Even worse my UpRev dongle hasn't worked for almost a year in any computer I plug it into, so I can't even recoup my cost on the licenses.

I couldn't care less about their reasons or their excuses.

At the end of it all, I'm out thousands of dollars on the UpRev software and regret my decision to purchase their "solution". I'll continue to share my opinion on the subject whenever I feel like it, as I was an UpRev customer and am not even remotely pleased with their software or their support.

Good luck with that slander defense though.
