Default Tuning and reliability?

So i might be pulling the trigger to getting my car tuned. But, im scared that the reliability isnt gonna be their. I daily drive my z and plan on doing so for many many many wonderful miles to come. Im thinking uprev and ecutek...for you tuned guys daily driving your cars...you guys running into any serious issues like blowning engine and what-not? I would love to do the "400hp kit" and tune it and just enjoy it. Need some insight.

Joey

Mine has had full bolt ons and uprev tuned since 14k. I'm at 96k, no problems but my oil is changed every 5k with full synthetic.

As long as its done correctly a tune will increase the reliability and longevity of your engine

Go Ecutek with Seb at Specialty Z. The throttle response is unreal. I've got about 2500 miles now on my supercharged Z and it runs great! I was a little concerned with how it would do on cold starts but I can't tell any difference from when it was stock.

I have about 5k on my Ecutek tune with exhaust and CAI. No issues whatsoever. No difference in cold start.

A normally aspirated daily driver with few or full bolts should be just fine.

I'd be more hesitant with a SC or turbo as my daily driver z. Definately as some already mentioned a quality tuner is essential. Searching the site should provide many options whether you go with ecurek or uprev.

I forgot to mention when i drove from maryland to phoenix and after a few days in summer phoenix heat my car was stalling, running real bad and fortunately i had my uprev cable with me and AAM was able richen my mixture to fix it. So i have a tune for MD at low to med elevation and the other i use in higher elevation or in extreme heat.

It's more about about the tuner than which package (Uprev or Ecutek) you use. Your driving habits will have a greater effect on reliability than a good tune.

Look through the feature lists for Uprev and Ecutek, pick the package with the features you like best, find a good tuner, enjoy.

welp, fairly old thread thought id revive it

Since my birthday is in a few months, i decided to pull the trigger and buy a tune for my z!. I wanted it early in advance, so for my birthday, which is may 8th i wanted to have my car tuned and ready to go. so after months and months of research, ive been back and forth with uprev or ecutec. my heart was set on uprev just because it was what i was looking for. But, everyone kept saying ecutek is just that much better, and it was only 100 bucks more and i heard, this from different threads...etc,etc, and also too contact seby on specialty-z. So, i contacted specialty-z a week ago and spoke with seby, asking if i should get e-tuned or off the shelve tune, asking which would better suit me. im not really looking 2step, or flat foot shift or any other feature that would only better suit boosted z. even tho flat foot shift would benefit 1 to 2nd gear. But i dont need it. i just wanted my car with just a noticable tune. with that being said, seby said off the shelve tune is what im looking for. so, i pulled the trigger and bought it! i received days later, downloaded the software, sent seby a screen shot, i think within that night or early morning i received my base tune, and within that day i programmed my z, I must say seby is the man!!! i took the car to work this morning a did some data logging and mind you this is the first time i drove it with a tune and its night and day difference. even tho it was just crusing around town heading to work, the car felt beast mode!!!! AND I HAVENT EVEN WOT YET! LOL. super impressed seby you are the mannnnn! he is awesome to deal with, response super fast and i am super pump. just thought id share my experience. im still data logging and sending them to seby, just to make sure my z is running healthy. if anyone has any questions or help with ecutek program i can try to help. just PM or post here

Thanks Joey

special thanks to Seby at specialty-z!

So glad to hear you are enjoying your tune. I had mine done last May on the way to ZdayZ with Ecutek and I am 100% satisfied. I am not so much impressed with the added HP/TQ, but with the drivability. The car is so much more responsive that I find myself downshifting less. The MPG has improved slightly as well, so, for those wondering if a tune is right for you, I say go for it!!!

I have been on the fence to dyno tune or do the shelf program too. I already have the dreaded po300 since the HFC install. I don't have a laptop but a desk computer so I don't know if that works. Was the price under $400(tax return) if u don't mind me asking. mine is just a DD also.

Seb is the man tuned both of my last two cars. made really good power on my bolted 09G37X (324WHP) and had issue with KR" Engine wasn't taken car off before I got it at 58k" He tuned it and drove it to 98K and not one issue.

My Q50 is really nice, had a EVO10 and a 335XI shaking their heads.. An only running a catback and stock style intakes
