programed ECU trade with stock ECU

allright i have a stock 370Z and i am also in the process of buying another Z34 from right here on these forums, wanted to know can i switch the tuned ECU for the stock one?? I will most likely switch the bolt on's (HFI,headers,HFC,CBE) out with one another stock for upgraded. I just don't know if i can switch the ECU's they might be car or tune specific????

any thoughts????? thx

Rip the rom and transfer it. You will need to return the other ecu back to stock. If it is an Osiris car you will need a cable and a back to stock flash. Also the ecu code needs to match. There are also other ways to go about it. Like getting the NATS disarmed on both and so on.

i for got to say, it is uprev flash and tuned at forged performance AL, if i can't trade ECU's can i trade bolt on's and leave the ECU's were they are?? I know the stock car(ecu) won't see full performance without the tuned ecu, but will the other car(ecu) be ok as is ? will it learn and just deal with the stock intake, exhaust, etc.??

John@Z1 11-12-2009 02:06 PM

Pull the license off the other car and transfer it to the other. When you put it back to stock it will be normal again.

RCZ 11-12-2009 05:11 PM

John, it just so happens that uprev decided not to develop the file that lets us unmarry the license. Add that one to the list of things we cant do. You should be able to just transfer ECUs. Like literally from car to car.

As it stands right now, you will make a LOT more power out of a tune if you start with stock everything else, than if you start with full bolt-ons.... simply because bolt-ons will lean out the car already. Fuel tuning is the only way to add power right now...

So if you have no mods, theres room to make power with the tune. If you have mods, you have less and less power to make.

I was hoping to be able to just take parts from one Z and put in the other. Stock one is PW with 7AT and the hooked up one is PG with 6MT

Here is a list of mods already done to the PG Z

yeah i don't want to hurt either Z but would like to do this if it would not hurt the girlZ

RCZ 11-12-2009 07:19 PM

You bought that car? Don't tell me you are taking all those mods off and putting them in your white automatic Z? If you are... I might pick up that clutch and flywheel from you.

semtex 11-12-2009 07:28 PM

Well this is an interesting project to stumble upon. :wtf2:

cotizi 11-12-2009 07:31 PM

Short Shifter plz.

RCZ 11-12-2009 07:37 PM

^ Damn good call.

nice setup! how much did all the cost! :stirthepot:

semtex 11-12-2009 07:52 PM

He's not the one who did those mods, so he might not know. He's buying a 6MT Z with those mods already done, and plans to transfer all the parts over to his 7AT Z. At least, the parts that aren't MT-specific.

cotizi 11-12-2009 08:02 PM

I really like the way that car looks in profile. I can't imagine lowering my car, i already scrape the sh*t out of it backing out of the drive way as it is. Damn Texas roads.

Let me know if you dont want to sway any of those things. I'm looking to buy a thing or two that you have.

ok that makes sense so the tune HP number will be higher if there is little to no bolt on's becouse there is more room to make the HP, but if you have full bolt on's then there is just little power left to be made "as is stands now"

so what do ya'll think take bolt on's ?? Leave ECU ??

1slow370 11-13-2009 01:49 AM

you know i gotta ask. Why?

why what the parts swap??

RCZ 11-14-2009 03:28 PM

It actually make s a lot more sense than I originally thought.... you see all those parts on that silver car are practically free because the price he paid for the entire car with the mods. So his plan is to take the mods and then sell the silver car for close to 32k. He is more or less an effin genius. Wow.

Hat tip to you sir. Now sell me a few of those things and that will pay for the cost of swapping the rest of the parts over. Like the brakes...you don't race the car so sell me all those pointless racing mods...

KaienZ34 11-17-2009 11:19 AM

bump for info

semtex 11-17-2009 11:46 AM

I don't recommend switching the ECUs. The different transmissions alone might make a swap problematic.

KaienZ34 11-17-2009 12:26 PM

do you think the car with the mods intake, exhaust, ecu, will be ok if i take the intake and exhaust but leave the ecu in there and put stock intake and exhaust on it ??

semtex 11-17-2009 12:38 PM

Hmmm...good question. It might run a little rich, because it would be tuned to expect more air than it's getting. I doubt it would actually hurt anything though.

KaienZ34 11-17-2009 12:55 PM

that's about what i was thinking, that it may take a little for the ecu to adjust it's self. but no problems should happen...if you or anyone knows are finds out some more info i thank you now for the help

RCZ 11-17-2009 04:19 PM

^ well no, once your have changed the values as much as you would with AFR tuning, the "learning" that the ECU does will not make up for it. Its not going to learn itself out of a rich mix. I say switch them and try it out, if everything works youre good. If not, just switch em back. Its not hard to do. I dont know for sure, but I assume its under the passenger foot well like on other cars...
