Another ECUTEK trial

I just received my cable and license .
I will be working with Sebastian at Specialty Z.
I will keep everyone up to date to how this remote tuning is going.
Wish me luck!

TerribleONE 12-08-2015 12:38 PM

Keep us updated on the results.

gbrettin 12-08-2015 12:55 PM

I'm very interested in the results. I'm going with ECUTek and I have been considering them to do my tune.

SwissCheese 12-08-2015 09:58 PM

Keep us updated on your experience!

I've been thinking of getting an intake this spring (to add to my current FI test pipes and exhaust set up), but if I do, I would want to get a tune. Since there aren't any Z tuners nearby, I would need an etune.

wideglideleon 12-09-2015 09:37 AM

Next step

I downloaded the software from Ecutek's website on my pc updated it including the license. Sabastian had me plug into my car and capture some info for him my ROM ID #, this was saved as a screen capture and Emailed to him.
I will let you all know next step and how it goes.

wideglideleon 12-10-2015 07:59 AM

Base tune

Was told base tune should be sent today.
I am excited to see what is different.
:happydance:

wideglideleon 12-11-2015 09:41 AM

Base tune

I received my base tune as promised.
Will make time this weekend to do some real time data logging.
Not quite sure of the directions from Sebastian and I am sure I will need to get more specific directions, maybe even a phone call.
Wish me luck!

osbornsm 12-11-2015 09:51 AM

I just flashed ECUtek with another vendor that uses the same process.

Hit me up, i got the process figured out.

wideglideleon 12-11-2015 11:51 AM

Sebastian Emailed me right back and explained how to load the base map.
I have to say I am impressed at the quick response from him.
Was worried going in to this remote tuning, after reading so many posts of slooow responses from most tuners.
Will be doing this on the weekend.
As before i will keep you all up to date.

Hotrodz 12-11-2015 02:30 PM

You don't have to worry about Seb, if there is a delay in his response it's for good reason. Seb has been tuning my car for almost 3 years (it will be 3 in January) and he did my TT install 2 years ago and he has never failed to communicate with me to my dissatisfaction.

Edit: You can also PM me if you got any questions as well.

wideglideleon 12-17-2015 11:25 AM

Busy will update soon

Seb has been great I have my base tune and need to log for different maps.
I have been to busy with work and the holidays coming up to have done it yet.
I hope to have time to take the car out this weekend and get the data logged for Seb to do his magic.
So far so good.

:iagree: Seb is the man

batman_4 12-18-2015 09:29 PM

Not trying to hijack but I have one somewhat stupid question....I have looked but does one need a Windows based computer to get this to work once you get the cable and license? I ask because I currently do not have a Windows based computer at home (all Apple).

StillenZ84 12-18-2015 09:56 PM

Yeah gotta have Windows. I also only have Mac and had to make a windows partition to be able to use the software.

chuckie311 12-22-2015 09:08 AM

Seb at Specialty Z is the only place i take my car to be worked on!!
he tuned my car with uprev in 2013 and now ECUTEK 2015

wideglideleon 03-25-2016 03:17 PM

Sorry guys had my grand child dump orange juice on laptop killed it dead. Just got it replaced last weekend.
I sent my logs to Seb after work so like 6pm Mountain time here and with in an hour he sent a revised tune. Very smooth acceleration, and trans shifts much harder when jumping on it.
I will do some more logging and resent this weekend although it is night and day already from factory. I love the throttle response!
I can't believe how fast Seb responded, especially after how long it took me to send him my logs.

StillenZ84 03-25-2016 04:32 PM

Seb is the man no doubt about it.

zmanelite 03-25-2016 04:35 PM

What's the price for EcuTek?

wideglideleon 03-25-2016 05:34 PM

I think I paid about $800 for remote tuning from Sebastian from Specialty -Z.
The guy knows what he's doing and responds very quickly.

TacoTruck 04-14-2016 03:53 PM

what mods have you done before tuning? I have an AT7 as well and only have short ram and exhaust. I don't plan on doing any more mods just looking for a better driving experience since I spend a lot of time in the car.

wideglideleon 04-14-2016 05:02 PM

Full CBE exhaust including High flow cats, stock headers, G3 Stillen intake that's all the engine mods I have done. I really like the throttle response and the smooth power band since the tune.

Do it. Seb is the freaking man. Honest as the day is long and one hell of a tuner. Highly recommended as he is the only one who will touch the Z. It's been boxed up and shipped to him also. Great place.:driving:

wideglideleon 05-10-2016 02:47 PM

Update went for emission testing to re register my car and they failed me, apparently could tell the ECU was tempered with. the print out states (Vehicle has received a tamper fail status based in information received from the vehicle's On Board Diagnostic system ODB).
I will reflash the stock tune and try it again and let everyone know what they say if anything.
Seb said he has never seem this before.
That's AZ for ya.

Sub'd to see what happens here. I'm assuming you are NA? I have no chance, might have to say I live with Bob up there in Flag when emission testing comes up for me! What are people doing to get around this? I'm sure there's other boosted out there than need to pass emissions?

BboyZ 05-10-2016 03:12 PM

WOW, that weird.. I have boosted RSX for a long time, might not be relevant but never had any problem on emission. only thing I can tell is when my rsx first emission it has KPRO already.

wideglideleon 05-10-2016 03:16 PM

Yes I am NA. Nothing special with my mods Berk cats, FI catback and Stillen gen 3 intake and ECUTEK tune.
Weird for sure!, as stated earlier I will update what happens after reflashing back to factory tune.
Between this and my not so good luck with Z1's upper control arms the mod bug is fast leaving my system.

Sounds good man. The risk here is when you fail they put a big "FAILED" note on your VIN so there's no getting around it anymore. They want to see if fixed. Your issue isn't too costly, but I have no cats and ecutek tuning :( Won't have to deal with it for a few more years but will be curious to see how it goes! Good luck bro!

wideglideleon 05-11-2016 11:42 AM

I flashed the ECU this am back to factory, I forgot how bad the throttle response is from the factory arrrgh. I need to put around a hundred miles or so then Ill make another trip to the emission facility. I will keep everyone informed if that fixes it or if I need to go get a waver.

ZRed 05-11-2016 12:09 PM

Here's another option, just move states

This used to happen with Uprev too. In Illinois they will fail you if the sensors for downstream o2 sensors are disabled. Wonder if its the same thing?

birdman71 05-12-2016 06:43 PM

I'll be doing ECUTek here soon too and I'll be putting either Motordyne ART pipes or FI Res HFC on first before I do so haha

As for emissions, Before I bought this car I made sure I had a shop lined up to just pay off for a Pass on my emissions and decibels tests. I know I won't pass lol
Keep us informed on your results

ANMVQ 05-15-2016 09:18 PM

I'm betting there where sensors"off" MA is very strict pia I have been passing , I had both uprev and ECUTEK and never had any issues. But I always make sure 02 sensors are on :)

wideglideleon 05-16-2016 03:33 PM

Update,
all is well , AZ DMV emission are idiots, the testing facility couldn't find my VIN on my ECU so they failed me. I went to the main testing facility and they said it happens alot with certain vehicles and that is is all ok. just needed them to evaluate it and they gave me a form to use from now on when I go have testing, stating that its been evaluated and is ok.
It turns out I didn't have to reflash my ECU back to factory after all.

BboyZ 05-16-2016 03:45 PM

Good to hear. I'm not surprise LOL.

Ronin06 06-13-2016 03:09 PM

Lived in AZ many years ago. Back then they only tested tail pipe emissions, as it should be.

So are they not writing the vin to the PCM then? That may be an issue for me in the future since Ca is the tightest, yet Seb works in Ca so I would think they would have run into that by now.
