Full exhaust without a tune
Hi gents,
Is it ok/recommended/safe to run the 370z without a tune with an aftermarket exhaust with stock cats removed? There are no other mods beside that, also car still has stock headers. I read somewhere about an ECU reset, how do you do that? thanks:tiphat: |
You can,but the car will not run as efficiently.
No intake changes either, right? I'd think initially the car would be running a bit lean. |
The rule-of-thumb seems to be that if you make just intake mods or just exhaust mods, you shouldn't need a tune - the ECM will adjust. If you change both the intake and exhaust, you need a tune. YMMV
Resetting the ECM is simply removing one of the battery cables and waiting a few minutes for the capacitors in the ECM to discharge (or press the brake pedal to turn on brake lights and drain the caps). You may need to perform the window reset procedure after restoring battery power. |
Yes, stock intake right now with OEM filters. Thanks SouthArk370z. Will do that.

In many cases, changing just the intake or just the exhaust is within what the ECM can handle. But it may not do it as well as a retune. To get the most from any mods, a retune is a good idea. Or if you just want a little more oomph/responsiveness in your OEM setup. |
The ECU will compensate somewhat for everything, My friend drove his Z fully bolted( yes headers) for over a year with no tune. He wasn't make WOT pulls all the time tho either. I wouldn't suggest it but it can be done.

I had an uprev done with Z1 hoses , drop in filters and a cat back , then fitted test pipes and went back and it had leaned out a lot it stayed above 13.5/1 for the whole pull
