UpRev to EcuTek - Here we go...

A little background. My name is Anthony. Been apart of the myg37 forums for a few years now. Originally from Cleveland area of Ohio. (OH :)) Now residing in PHX area of AZ for past 10 years or so. I have a 2011 Infiniti G37 Sedan Sport. Purchased her a few years back with 18k on her and now at around 45k. Love the ride, but the 7AT has always bothered me. And honestly i will probably never purchase another Infiniti again because of my experience with this transmission.

On to the car though...

Some of my mods done are as follows

Stillen Long Tube CAI, Fast Intentions SS Cat Back Exhaust, 3.7 Gears Quaife Diff. & GTM Valve Body

I currently have had UpRev on my car for a year or two now. While my power and tq numbers are on par and what i would expect being NA with the bolt ons i have, I am switching to EcuTek for drivability purposes. I would love to gain more HP and TQ but given what i have don't expect to see much more rgains in these areas but It will sure be a plus though. :)

I am really looking for improving the drivability of my G. I am hoping EcuTek along with Johns tuning abilities he can give me a more enjoyable driving experience.

Ill post my experience through out my time working with John and the EcuTek product.

John has been a pleasure to chat with in our first couple conversations. Not that it means the world but the packaging and boxing the ecutek kit comes in , i can tell they took the time to put together a quality product.

I have high hopes for this process and am very excited about the possibilities.

Small update. Dumped my current rom and sent it off. Whlie dumping it told me it was an unsupported ECU. So im sure it will take a couple days to get it sorted by ecutek.

Attached are my last dynos from this past year with my current setup. (upRev)

I'm running 91 gas.

So you send your ecu to John for custom tune and while this happens your car is down?

mezzo 06-28-2015 03:08 PM

No sir. My uprev tune is still on the car. I just dumped it for him so he could start looking at things. I will eventually flash the uprev tune back to stock, unmarry the license to the uprev cable and then flash a tune i receive from John. Which i assume will be more or less a base tune based on my setup. From there we start to tweak the ecutek tune.

By the way if you meant that i am actually physically sending my ECU part... that is not necessary. I just dump the data from it and send it to him so we can begin the process.

I think he means, the ECU is unsupported when he did a ROM dump to send it to John so he can load it and start tuning.

So for the eTune process, how does it work exactly? You do data logging (from driving?), email it to him, he tweaks the tune, emails it back to you, you flash it onto the ECU and then repeat until it's good?

Hope OP doesn't mind me answering your question. Yes, what you described is correct, with the exception of the e-mailing part. The ROM dump, data logs, and updated maps are sent back and forth using Tuner Assist, which is part of the software, instead of by e-mail.

Thanks for the answer! So for somebody like me (in Iowa, with not many tuners nearby), I could get fully tuned just by driving around and sending in my data logs? That's incredible!

Yep! That's how I did it, but its more than just driving around. Essentially, you do WOT pulls up to redline in several gears for each map.

Sorry I haven't been on here to respond to some questions, but I'm glad to see this section a little more active with people helping each other out. Yes part of the tuning process is sending a rom dump of your ecu, sending logs and downloading new tunes.. All of this is done with my own person custom software called Tuner Assist. Makes the e-tuning process super super simple!

Just a small update.

I received a file to flash from John yesterday.

I flashed the tune to my G and fired her up. Unfortunately she didn't kick over. I immediately called John. John asked that I flash the car backed to stock. I did so and my G was happy again. For the next couple hours John and i worked hand in hand trying multiple revisions of the tune along with me doing some idle logging on most every revision. In the end John determined it to be a bug and let me know Monday he would contact EcuTek and get back to me.

The experience, while not a great start, did leave me feeling comfortable in Johns hands. He was available and persistent on getting this figured out. Unfortunately we hit a snag due to my rom probably being newer and unsupported.

Logging was a breeze with the ecutek software and John's tuner assist program to transfer files between the two of us made things even easier.

Happy 4th everyone. More updates to follow.

Tuner assist makes everything so easy!!

Received a new file today. Flashed it and were up and running. I'm going to run this base tune until we dig in further.

Going to post pone data logging with John though for now because I've decided to purchase some resonated cats, upper and lower ported plenums. Wont have the cats for 3 to 4 weeks from now. At that point ill throw the upper/lower and cats on and start to work with John again.

Ahhhh! Ok. The suspense is getting to me. Good luck man
