I wonder if the EcUtek has throttle table like the uprev were you can tweak it, if not there is no way it will be like my Uprev throttle Map response.

I was using your lastest throttle map you sent me. I'm working on rev5 tomorrow so we'll see! Getting one day closer to Saturday is getting me

Good luck ! Pls. update us!

Have you ran your X in the 1/4 mile ( want to see the ET) I am torn between a used 2013 G37x sedan $22k with 22.5 k miles vs 2016 WRX. The price difference is about 8 grand and I already tested the reliability of the VQ. Test drove the 2015 WRX and it is definitely push me back to my seat, but in a very short time 2k-5k rpm. I could feel hitting a wall pass 5k rpm, unlike the G it keeps goin! The G sedan x is about 500 IBs heavier than the wrx.

Not sure how reliable the WRX after 50k miles. BTW, stock 2015 WRX only dyno at 210 HP, but it is 500 Ibs lighter..

G37x sedan combined MPG is 18-19
WRX is 23-24 combined.

I have a 15WRX and 14FXT which have the same motor..

I've owned the FXT for 2 years and the WRX for a year.. have a combined 80k miles..

Both vehicles abused for R&D... I love love love both of these cars.

The WRX is manaul and under powered stock..FXT doesn't feel bad because the of the CVT.210 HP.. that sounds like low low mustang numbers.. When people are talking power numbers they normally discuss 'dynojet' like numbers.. The new WRX makes 250-260 STOCK.. with a flash they pickup 30whp.. I'm not sure what these Gs do in the 1/4 but the wrx isn't anything impressive and I know the G will smoke the wrx on the highway.. I'm seeing 20-30MPG on our cars but some people have reported higher.

They are both very different cars.. I mean the WRX has improved in everything, even the interior but it's no G or Q!

Here's what revision #4 looks like.

Car is no longer super lean.. just a tad rich so I need to take a little fuel out during higher load / WOT.

For those of you wondering, I've personally seen no performance gain worth running the car 12.9AF

These cars actually like a little fuel in the upper rpms, which is why you'll see me commanding more fuel as the RPMS increase

A few more tweaks and then we can start working on a few other things

I havent run mine YET, I will when all this is done. I had a WRX but and 02 :/.liked it for about 6 months , wasnt my cup of tea. I can agree with John about the interior on the G or Q( wifes car) is nicer IMO also. Being a little older the refined interior is good for me. When or IF I leave Infiniti it will be for a German car( Audi , BMW) .

Subbed for results. I've been thinking about ECUTek in the near future.

Visconti - I have a ZEX nitrous system. Let me know if you get the details worked out in a PM.

Thanks for the input! I test drove the 2015 STI and WRX and I could feel that the WRX pushes me to my seat more at lower RPM, both with 2 passengers around 300IBS combined. I did no rev to the top of RPM band of the STI so I really do not know if it will hit a wall at 5k RPM.

The new WRX looks modern - finally the interior is decent compare to the 2014 model and I like the subtle look from the side too. Regarding the G37x sedan, it is a heavy car so it does not feel very peppy, unless the RPM is pass 3k. 3 years from now, the look of the G37x is way outdated.
Even today, it is a bit outdated compare to the new cars coming out.

The G definitely has a better highway end power and a. 100MPH is nothing for this car.
I cannot think of anything else that perform like the WRX or G37x that is worth 24 grand.

I have a 2008 EX35 AWD infiniti and it will be out of warranty on Sept. next year. I just had my timing cover chain leaks repaired under warranty for $2,800. I really cannot keep a high mileage luxury car with no warranty.

I wonder if it is worth putting a COBB stage one on the 2015 WRX ? Just to have a better top end and smooth everything out. Is this going to be quick enough for DD?

I really do not trust German cars nowadays. I probably going to lease it than buy it. (Under warranty) My cousin works as a tech at the BMW dealership and he does not recommend it to us. Parts are very expensive too!

I had a loaner Q50 AWD last month and also a Q50s AWD Hybrid 2 weeks ago. The gas one did not impress me, but the Hybrid is a blast to drive! That thing is a rocket! Very fast and effortless on the highway. From dead stop (half brake press, so it will not go to EV mode) it catapult you from 0-60 MPH in around 4.7-4.8 secs. quietly..... =)

ANMVQ, hope you"ll find what you lookin for from the ECUTek!

If you have more cooler months weather in your state you drive in, would it be beneficial to setup the AFR leaner? Low 13's and 12.8-12.9 for hotter state?

I just noticed how my data logged AFR changes on cooler months vs hotter months using the same tune in UPREV.

Going STG1 EcuTek or COBB is the way to go *cough* *cough* EcuTek ;)

No I dont see any benefit in that mostly because the car doesn't make anymore power with leaner air fuels on a hot or cold day. Even if you were able to squeeze a few more hp by leaning the car out it wouldn't be worth the risk of riding closer to the threshold of knock for 2-3whp

John

Let first off by say John has been great the whole time and a pleasure to work with!!
OK on to the review so far :)

Ok guys , Been a week of driving on my ECUtek Vs UPREV and can say that it “feels” about the same, The ECUtek shifting is still something that’s lacking IMO, it will only shift firmly at WOT and high RPM’s ( An I still feel UPREV shifted better) . An having a 7 spd auto and the stock shifting logic is terrible it was something I REALLY like on my UPREV. Pretty much anything past 1/3 throttle UPREV would shift firm, and being I drive exclusively in manual mode this is important to me, and the LAZY shift is not for me. The throttle responsiveness is close but still feel UPREV has a bit of an edge here also. I finally got a 1-3 WOT pull in this morning and 1-2 felt about the same as UPREV but hitting 3rd it felt like a flat spot ? Car didn’t pull hard right away,( The shift was EH) but the RPM’s did rise up again fast kinda took a second just felt slower. I was told the tune was just about spot on 99% . John said to make it more aggressive wouldn’t do that much and the tune is safe so that’s fine with me as I want a safe tune only.

I have one more flash to load but haven’t had time. Been busy with the wife( Wedding anniversary this week, MRI for my back today) so lot of things going on. I will load this up before the dyno tomorrow just so we have an apples to apples compare. I will be surprised if I make any more power tomorrow when on dyno but we’ll see. Depending on what the numbers are I’ll might sell the Ecutek but not sure. The gain if any has to justify to me to have spent $300 extra dollars for Ecutek. An the fact that I have a auto and AWD the racerom features and updates are of no use to me. Was looking to strictly make more power and enhance the cars drivability. Maybe I am expecting too much and there really is zero difference in them I don’t know, but going into the dyno tomorrow I’m not feeling too good about the $$ I spent.

elperuano 06-12-2015 07:51 AM

Thanks for the review.

gbrettin 06-12-2015 10:09 AM

It sounds like there is a lot of room to tweak yet. Keep us posted! Thanks for the review so far.

BTW, I have a 7AT so I am very interested in how that gets worked out.

njobe89 06-12-2015 11:22 AM

i think the stuff you're looking for you already had since you're awd. i would want someone to test this out on a manual 370z.
