EcuTek Releases Phase 2 RaceRom !!
This information was taken directly from their news letter.
After many months of development EcuTek are proud to announce the release of RaceROM Phase 2 for 370Z. It's been two years since the initial release of our 370Z software and there has been a huge amount of work put in by the development and testing team to create this class leading product. The full feature list is detailed below ProECU Updates: • Fully defined Variable Timing Control (VTC) - Set the VTC angle at idle, overrun and on full load • Fully defined Variable Valve Event Lift (VVEL) -Set the VVEL angle at idle, overrun and on full load • Knock control per cylinder - Log and adjust the knock limit for each cylinder • Throttle and torque control - Torque limits and full pedal to throttle control • Detailed Fuel Injector control - Injector size, lag time and firing angle • Overrun fuel cut - Control when the fuel injectors restore • MAF Sensor rescaling - Rescale for new intakes without upsetting the engine load • Cruise control - Adjust the maximum target and set speeds • Radiator fan control - Adjust the fan duty cycle • Gear Ratios - Correct for new gears or final drives New RaceROM Features: • Map Switching - Rev counter indication of the four different map switch modes • Flat Foot Shift - Full throttle gear changes (Manual Transmission models only) • Speed Density - MAP sensor based tuning with VVEL compensation • RaceROM Controller - Use the cruise control switch gear for adjusting calibration • Knock Warning - Check engine light flashes when knocking is detected • Per Gear Rev Limit - A different rev limit in each gear • Launch Control - Adjustable Launch RPM using the cruise control (Manual Transmission models only) • Custom Maps - Create a map to do almost anything! • Traction Control - Adjustable traction control using custom maps • Boost Control - Closed loop boost control using custom maps • Flex-Fuel - Ethanol flex-fuel tuning using custom maps • AFR Control - Closed loop target AFR control using custom maps • Fail-Safe - Protect the engine from any dangerous situations • Gauge Hijack - Display lambda, AFR, fuel trims or ethanol content on the oil temp gauge Phase 2 RaceROM Map List Map Switching Map switching for the 370Z provides 4 separate customizable tuning modes, which can be changed on-the-fly by the driver using the cruise control switchgear. These modes can be customized to provide bespoke settings such as: Mode #1 Economy Mode Tuned to provide the best fuel economy but with reduced performance. Mode #2 Road Mode Tuned to provide the best performance for regular fuel quality. Mode #3 Race Mode Tuned to provide the best power using high octane race fuel at the track. Mode #4 Ethanol Fuel Mode Tuned to run on Ethanol based fuels Map Switching also works with other RaceROM features such as Launch Control, Flat-foot Shifting or Speed Density, enabling them to be switched on and off depending on the mode selected. Flat-Foot Shifting Flat-foot Shifting allows you to keep your foot flat on the accelerator while changing gears to minimise your gear change time and to maintain engine speed for when the next gear is engaged. By reducing the engine torque and controlling the air fuel ratio during gearshifts, the engine, clutch and drivetrain are not unnecessarily stressed. This is very important on forced induction vehicles where the power output is substantially higher. Speed Density The Speed Density (SD) feature changes the way the engine load is calculated. When SD mode is activated, the ECU will disregard the MAF sensor reading and will instead calculate mass airflow based on engine speed, manifold pressure, variable valve event lift (VVEL) and air temperature. This feature can be useful in the following conditions: • Extra large MAF sensor intakes have been fitted causing low air speed and poor air speed stability • The MAF sensor reading suffers from air turbulence from the compressor wheel (turbo and supercharger models) • If an external blow off valve has been fitted (turbo models) • The MAF sensor reading hits 5 volts at high RPM In addition, the Hybrid Speed Density feature offers a combined MAF and SD configuration, the transition from MAF to SD (or SD to MAF) can be calibrated against a range of activation thresholds like engine speed, mass air flow or manifold pressure. The Speed Density feature can be enabled in any of the map switch modes. RaceROM Controller The RaceROM Controller is a driver-adjustable input to the Custom Maps system. The driver can select a value using the cruise control buttons and it is displayed on the oil temp gauge. The tuner can create a custom map to adjust any of the engine parameters based on the driver’s input. This could be used on a forced induction car, for example, to select a desired level of boost. It can also be used by the tuner to provide a certain amount of live tunability. Per-Gear Rev Limit This feature allows per-gear rev limits to be configured. It could be used to improve 0-60 times by allowing a higher 2nd gear limit to just hit 60 mph / 100 km/h in 2nd, whilst preserving the lower rev limit in other gears. Launch Control The launch RPM is adjustable from the cruise control switchgear and can be enabled for any of the four map switch modes. Also included is an ignition retard traction control feature that can help reduce wheel spin after the launch. Oil Temp Gauge Hijack This feature allows the tuner to repurpose the oil temp gauge to display a different parameter such as AFR or fuel Ethanol content Custom Maps RaceROM Custom Maps allow the tuner to modify the behaviour of the factory ECU by inserting additional maps into the ECU's normal calculations for parameters such as ignition timing, fuel, boost & VVT. It also allows re-purposing of inputs and outputs to measure custom sensors or solenoids not featured on the standard vehicle (Flex-Fuel, EGT, Oil or Fuel Pressure for example). For more information on these powerful and unique features, see the dedicated Custom Maps Manual. See below a few examples of what is possible using Custom Maps. Traction Control Using Custom Maps we can create a fully adjustable Traction Control system that can simply be adjusted using the cruise control switch gear on the steering wheel. Too much or too little wheelspin for the current conditions? Simply fine tune the calibration in an instant. The current Traction Control level can be displayed on the oil temp gauge and the wheel slip amount can also be shown. This powerful feature is a must on any forced induction models and Custom Maps can even use steering wheel angle and g-sensors for the Traction Control calibration. Boost Control RaceROM Custom Maps can offer a wastegate solenoid driven boost control on forced induction models. This can be a basic open loop control setup or a more sophisticated closed loop system with proportional and integral control. Additional compensations for gear, altitude and temperature can also be added. This output duty cycle control can be used on supercharged models to recirculate or vent inlet manifold pressure during part load condition when undersized drives are used. The boost pressure or wastegate duty can also be displayed on the oil temp gauge. Flex-Fuel The 370Z can now be accurately tuned for any ethanol content ratio making it a safe and reliable flex-fuel setup. Like with the FR-S and GT-R setups, Custom Maps offers detailed ignition and fuel control for any given ratio and this can be linked to boost control on turbo models. There are already a few ‘plug and play’ kits that make flex fuel upgrades very quick and easy. The current Ethanol content ratio can also be displayed on the oil temp gauge. AFR Control The 370Z does not offer a full load closed loop fuelling control like the GT-R. Using Custom Maps we can set up a closed loop injector volume adjustment for a profiled target AFR. The AFR target feedback can come from the factory AF sensors or even better, import true wideband sensors through the rear O2 sensor to set up an accurate closed loop fuelling control. With an AFR fail-safe configured as well, this feature provides unparalleled engine safety for forced induction models. Fail Safe Fail-safe maps can be created to protect the engine should the fuelling run lean at high RPM, high boost or high speed. Additional protection can be added for air, coolant and oil temperature exceeding certain thresholds.

Here are a few things that weren't discussed in EcuTek's newsletter
Improved datalogging -Super Highspeed EcuTek has increased the datalog rate almost by 4x. This makes it easier for both you and your tuner to see what the car is doing. -Log more parameters at once EcuTek has doubled the amount of live data parameters you can log at one time. This allows you see log exactly what you need when you need it. Improved Fuel Injector Control Not only has EcuTek properly defined the OEM injector scaler map, but they've included everything your tuner will need to make sure you car starts up perfectly with larger injectors -Better defined Cranking Maps -Added "After Start enrichment Maps" -Added Fuel Injector Compensation (For Non-Return Fuel Systems)

Balls in your court!! I know you can tune these with both! You must must must tune a Z the best you can on uprev, flash back to stock and retune with this. I know with this being new it might take time but we gotta see a back to back same day, same dyno (gotta be dynojet) same gear, same correction etc. with clearly more stuff to mess with we have to see one tuned to full potential. I'll be realistic too...for the price even 10hp can be worth it cause my parts I sell are only good for 10hp but are way more $$$. Dollar per HP this could be very good.

Scott We are past that already, look at these features. Even if tuning a car with Uprev and ecutek ended up with the same results, UpRev will never have the features EcuTek does. is that something we can agree on? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ooooo correct! Hmmm. I'm sure like my old turbo Buick you'll need to just add a ethanol sensor somewhere? Nvm you said there's kits.

I find it interesting that the EcuTek website has this information posted with a date of July 26, 2015 ("26/07/2015"), which happens to be a Sunday. Is this a typo? Why would EcuTek use a date that is more than two months in the future? According to J. Visconti, Phase 2 is already available.

One question - How does the oil temp gauge hijack work? It would make sense to repurpose the clock since it's digital, but the oil temp gauge is marked in F from 140 degrees up. How do you read it when you use it for different parameters?
Also, talk me through boost control. We would need to add a solenoid into the system, right?

On flex fuel cars I've scaled the gauge so 100f = 0% ethanol.. 50% ethanol is 150f. There's so much you can do.. Like I said above the gauge can be used for ethanol content or you can user the gauge to display a traction or boost control setting which can be adjusted using the cruise control buttons. The clock isn't driven off the canbus so he can't be hi jacked. If there was a better way to do this ecutek would have done it. Just hookup a Mac value to your cpc solenoid wire.. I'm making a plug and play kit. I'll have a car setup with this next week.. Fuel system has delayed tuning John Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Does ecutek plan on expanding their tuner network? I've always been on the fence until these features were released, but you're the only guy out there tuning with it and CT is a bit of a hike from TX.
Alternately, how many people would you need to make a tuning trip worthwhile?

Ecutek is always accepting qualified tuners. What I can tell you is I've been doing this type of Nissan tuning with ecutek on GTR for several years, a lot of the stuff that's in this software is due to my Involvement behind the scenes... Any skilled tuner can pick up this suite and tune your car but it's going to take a while for them to get a handle on the very advanced custom map stuff that some of us have been using on a daily basis for years. I do make trips, need my expenses covered and some money in my pocket to make it worth it.. The more cars you have the cheaper it'll be per car. I'm defiantly down to make a trip John Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Shoot me a pm sometime with what you would need to make it worth your time. I'm nowhere near ready to make a switch just yet, but now that ecutek has come through it's back on the table for me.
