I dont know if it has been discussed but I would like to point out that Ecutek is not a "live" tuning software like uprev...
What does this mean to you the user? More cost as your tuner will have to spend a lot more time tuning your car... Being that it is not a live tuning platform. You will have to run logs on any run then shut everything down. You would then download it to your computer and view your logs. then make your changes and then reflash your ecu... start all over! even the smallest changes means you have to go through this process.... |

@robplusbee yup, they're always getting close but never release anything. We've seen the features exist but..I'm just stillll waiting to test it. Sigh |
Time frame
So I recieved my ecutek package on March 13 which was a Friday. On Sunday I was able to download everything and do a rom dump to Visconti. I figured it would take about a week for him to send me back a start tune so that I could get some datalogs in. What is the normal turnaround time to receive an update? I'm still waiting patiently for Visconti to send me something. I know these guys can get pretty busy so I don't want to be "that guy" that constantly hassles to get what he wants. Any ideas on a time frame? Do they have to custom make a map on the first one or do most tuners have a (canned tune) they send out, then tweak the data logs you send back?
Thanks for any input. |

John visconi tuned my car yesterday in about 30 minutes. Not long at all. Tuned for exactly what I had done, I gained launch control, 3 maps for 89/91/93 octane, first year of updates is free and he will look at logs and retune for minor bolt on upgrades through email. The car feels a lot more linear no jumps or drops in the rev band.
Yes it's not live change on the fly tuning. I had that with my power FC commander and this blows that out of the water. watched him tune 8-9 second GTRs yesterday with this and he's currently working on flex fuel for our cars... E85 anytime no switches or hooking up to a laptop. Just pump from almost empty and go. Changing back to 93 octane is the same. I'll be dealing with John from now on. |

everything is working flawlessly so far driving home and playing from Houston and around town this morning. But this setup is already available and been done on quite a few cars. Yes he may be hard to reach but most of the best are. |

However, I'm not sure the extra features are fully released. There is a master tuner in Austin who does a lot of GT-Rs, but they still don't have access to these latest 370Z features. John is the only tuner I've seen that has access to them. |

Problem is I didn't bother to buy a cable because I have a local tuner. I will also have to upgrade to the Pro Tune software (I think?). I don't know why, but that's what I've been told - I thought the Pro Tune was just for the tuner, not a whole different license. I may send John a PM in a month or so if the local guys can't get the new features by then. He's a busy guy and enough customer of his have problems reaching him that I'm not even going to bother him until I'm ready to pull the trigger. At that point, I'll just call him and ask everything on the phone first - I hate having technical discussions via PM or email. It's a little frustrating that there is no one on this forum that can actually explain what's going on with the Ecutek software. We are relying on information from the people that make money selling the product, not from Ecutek themselves. It's great that John has it and is offering it to people. But why only him? Thankfully, I don't have a need for any of the extra features, and my tune is fine. So I'm just in a holding pattern until they're ready. What's another month or three at this point? |
