Dealership transmission and ECU software update? Affect on UpRev tune?
 

I have an UpRev tune currently on my Infiniti M56S. My dealer says that there is a TCM and ECU update that needs to be performed on my car which improves shift response, behavior, throttle response, etc. But I told them not to do anything yet, because I have an ECU tune currently active.

Now, after I flash the ECU to stock and have the dealer perform all the updates, will re-uploading the tune into the ECU override the new software updates?

Flashing ROM will replace existing w/ new.

Each dealer ECU update has a different ECU part # in the firmware to differentiate them.

To put your tune back on you after ECU update, will need to get an updated OsirisROM from uprev corresponding to the new ECU part#, and have the tune data copied from the old file to the new one in ROM Editor.

guys are right, the dealer reflash will basically erase your tune and the ECU ID will change and you will not to be able to reflash it till you get a "new" tune, ID at least. But you knew that already :)

Just tell the dealer that you are happy with your ECU parameters and you do not need any update or reflash.

Regardless of old or new ECU flash from Infiniti, you would not really going to use it since you use an Uprev Tune.

Just to be safe, load Uprev back to stock when you service your car and you think they might hook up Consult II/III reader.

If you dont do this and you have the Uprev in the ECU. The reflash from Infiniti will erase your Uprev license and will not be able to flash it back to your Uprev Cable.

To answer your initial question, the ECU part number is critical, but whatever version of software Infiniti flash to the ECU can be overrode by the UPREV tuning software.

I had a reflash done on my G37 like 2 years ago. It was supposed to make the throttle response and shifts smoother. It did what it was supposed to, but the car seemed to have lost some aggressiveness. I personally liked the more aggressive throttle response and harder shifts. I shouldn't have done the dealer reflash. When Infiniti says "Improve" they usually mean make everything softer, as the majority of their customer base wants this. Maybe you should go to the Infinit M forums, and see what other members say about the reflash. It may not even be worth it, and then you don't have to sweat the whole UpRev tune thing.

Thanks. UpRev gave me the same answer. Once the OEM updates are complete, I'll need send them a ROM dump with the updates so they can apply my tune to a new file that won't overwrite them.

I want the update. It improves throttle response and improves transmission shift time. Some have compared the update to having an anchor removed that occasionally holds the car back.

Fortunately, that's not the case with the M56. It fixes things and sharpens them up. Some of the owners on the NICO forums have confirmed this. Plus I always have the option of going back. But I doubt I will.

Alphasnacks, does your Uprev tune file password protected? It is pretty easy to tweak the throttle response via Cipher if you have the Tuner version of Uprev. If you know how to reflash your ECU. I have a tuner version and I think I know where to adjust it via Cipher or I have some Uprev Throttle parameters that I created through trial and error for 1 year and just have your tuner copy and paste that to the Cipher Electronic Throttle table and save it to anothe MAP setting. (e.g. MAP 5)

Also, there is no way you can merged the new Infiniti ECU reflash parameters to your Uprev. Uprev will clean them all except probably the parameters that Uprev has not broken into. ( Transmission shift points??? ) , but throttle response is via UPrev.

Also, make sure you are clear with UPRev that ROM DUMP is free. If your ECU is not supported, they now charge $200 extra to ROM DUMP ( hacked your ECu)

I've worked out all the details already with UpRev.

I won't be paying for another ROM dump, as they've already done one for me to get the ECU tuned in the first place.

I'm good to go.
