Backfire after tune?
So a friend of mine has a 09 370z AT and he pops flames like crazy when his car is warmed up and he is in sport mode (slap shift) and he shifts at like 7,500rpm he pops flames. Like big flames. Not just little spits of flames. And I was wondering how he does that when everyone on here says NA automatic can't do it. He said he didn't plan for it to happen when it does it just does. He has UpRev tune, non catted / non res test pipes, full cat backs, and stillen G3 intake. I have basically the same mods as him but I have pulleys from NST. And no tune for another month or so. I've heard my car pop before but never seen a flame. Is that something a tune can do? Where it runs a little rich? I also drive a 7AT. Mine is 2011. Only difference in our cars is I have light weight pulleys and no tune. I wanted to have a 2step map for when the car was parked to do, but was told by UpRev themselves it was not possible. If that's the case. Then how come I can get on Instagram right now and see multiple videos of just that. 7AT having their fuel cuts and restore altered to where they're popping flames. Not an actual 2 step launch control but it cuts/restores fuel to where it dumps fuel into the exhaust and 2step flames come out.

Instagram < There's a link Straight from Nismo's page. They claim its NA headers exhaust and tune. I may be a little F&F but I want my car to do that and need to tell the tuner to do so. So if anyone knows how that's achievable. I'd love to know. Thanks.

Straight pipes, rich mix and retarded ignition (look up anti-lag tuning) will do that when the exhaust is hot.

You don't run it rich across the entire map, you only tune it rich and retard ignition when the throttle is closed at high revs Fuel is generally injected for a second or so before it is cut when you lift off, that's when the popping and banging can happen. And guess how much tuners here in Dubai charge to do that and make it seem like they invented a new ECU just to do that for you.
PS: Running rich (within reason) doesn't melt anything. It's running too lean that you want to avoid because that's when EGT's sky rocket and valves start melting on a boosted car especially. You actually tune a boosted car rich to cool down combustion temps.

well here's the thing lol
i don't know if mine does it or not as is. i need to strap the gopro on it soon and go for some runs. if not i honestly do not feel comfortable re-tuning my own car to run rich. i don't know the software enough (nor want to mess up my car) to go and play with the tune from AAM. but i wouldn't mind throwing some flames to be honest i do need to grab a nice mic for the gopro though. my exhaust is way to loud for a gopro internal mic.

Can you not save the map from AAM and keep it as backup in case you screw up?
You'll only be adjusting a portion of the fuel and ignition tables that AAM didn't touch. The high rev - low load region. AAM (and tuners in general) only adjust low rev/load for driveability and fuel economy and then high load across the rev range for power. The high rev low load area is generally untouched.

But will still allow plenty to safely enter exhaust. What software are you using to have an actual ignition cut? |
