NASA West Coast Champs - Valkyrie Autosport 370Z In-car

Here is our fastest session of the weekend, 1:43.4. Still a lot wrong with the car in terms of setup which will be addressed over the winter. Our goal of making it compete with a Porsche GT3 Cup car is in sight!

Damn that rx7 was fast! But couldn't hang with the angry catfish behind him. Great driving!

SPOHN 11-10-2014 09:07 PM

Very nice. I knew the RX-7 was eventually going to loose it.

That was a very quick LS1 swapped RX-7. I tracked a couple of those FD chassis for a couple of years for a customer, they are probably the best handling car I have ever driven on track.

Once we get our power to weight correct for ST1/TT1, it won't even be a contest next time we are on track together :).

We are currently running an adjusted 6.6 lbs per HP (adjusted for tire size and compound mainly by the NASA ST/TT rules) out of an allowed 5:1, so we have lots of room on the table. Next year with a new header setup we are hoping to be putting down more like 440 WHP, loose a little weight, and add a sequential gearbox and we should be right at our 5:1 allowed.

That gearbox got me going :yum: :yum: :yum: :yum:

Haha, thats awesome. I know it might have sounded like a dog engagement box, but it is just our failing stock trans. I bet I was loosing .1-.2 seconds a lap just in shifting. I bet close to a second just with being able to shift faster.

We are looking to put in a sequential over the winter. Just need to put a budget together for the car, get some sponsors on board, etc. Now that this is a shop owned car it costs me money to run instead of the opposite :).

Nice video... looks like a ton of fun.

Which sequential trans would you be interested to put in there?

phunk, any idea on one. You texted me about one. But you never got back.

I am deep into other projects so I havent put much thought into the drivetrain since that week.

I am curious which one they want to use, because maybe there is room for collaboration to get it done? Or for all I know, they already have it all worked out and just havent bought their trans yet.

I am looking at the mostly off the shelf Quaife 69G. It can be made with a 350HR bell housing which will fit a 370 block. It sounds like the only thing you will need is a driveshaft, and basic fab for a trans mount, and you are in business for about 14K. It says its rated to 750 BHP, and I spoke with a team in Europe that has used them with success.
