where is said race taking place? if it's not on a prepped drag strip that changes everything since a strip is set up for traction launches.

well you're gonna be in first. no reason to jump to 2nd and risk getting stuck in low revs.
i'd say first with some good throttle control. what tires do you have and how new are they. my RE-11's when new allowed me to dive right into full throttle and was pure traction. it was sexy.

I'm particularly interested in the tip to pull brake fuse. Have people done both while at the track and seen better results?

If you can't put traction down on a high rpm launch, pulling the brake fuse isn't going to do you any good.
