our track tester sort of vanished on us... we are putting together another one for testing now. i will post immediately as soon as there is any worthwhile updates. Whenever we get confirmation of it working properly we are standing by with material already here to build 20 more.

Default Next one with fuel starvation

Hi everybody,

so I have finally found this topic (after some help from members), which explains what happend to me - a few times in the street driving - and many times yesterday on the track, started with 1/2 tank.

And after reading all the pages, I have nothing to say...just keeps me thinking of my old 350z with no problems at all...

So for everybody experining this problem - hope we will find another solution than a full tank soon.

350z actually experiences the issue just the same. the fuel tank layout and design is nearly identical. the 370z is only more prone to the issue as the fuel tank is a couple inches deeper for larger capacity. Of course, the larger the capacity of the tank, the less control you have of the same quantity of fuel left in it. So its there in the 350z, you just have to push a little harder to get it!

Default confused...

So now Im even more confused - I have had 350z for three years - and I believe I really pushed hard. I even remember being on the same track like with 370z, but with fewer fuel and it never happend. Even for a fraction of a second, never...

But theres no solution till now. Im afraid, if I try to explain this to the dealer, he wouldnt understand or believe. Or second chance, he will replace half of the fuel system, with no success, only damaging rest of the car

370z tank should be larger? Here in Europe was it like this:

2004 350Z - 80 Litres (approx. 21 gallons)
2009 370Z - 70 Litres (approx. 18.5 gallons )

I had an 03 350z. Never had a problem. Could track it all the way to empty, but I think I heard the later ones did have this problem.

You could very well be correct, i never measured the actual displacement of the tank, I was assuming the 370z tank was larger because it is SEVERAL inches deeper. However, since I have not fully removed the 370z tank from the car to compare nor looked up the displacement, I was making an assumption.

Since owning my 370z, I already thought it had a larger tank, because I never had to pump so much fuel into my 350z. So when I saw all the added tank depth, I didnt think anything of it. Now I am considering if the level gauge is calibrated very differently between the two cars... perhaps the 350z still has a bit more fuel left in it at the lower gauge levels than a 370z... this could explain my misinterpretation and also why you felt you could push it lower in a 350z with no problems. :who knows:

You were very lucky! I have had many calls over the years for the 350z and this problem. I was able to make my car stutter a few times but I never completely killed it like my 370z. We didnt make anything for it because there was already a product that semi-solved it. however whenever our 370z version is all sealed up, we will probably revisit the 350z with updates to this unit to make it fit.

my 04 350 didnt have it until below 1/8 tank. i then took it in for some tsb on the fuel neck, i started getting it at 1/2 after they did something

Good news!!!

I just got off the phone with our initial track tester. While they had delays from our initial plans, it turns out they actually installed it last week and were able to begin testing over the weekend.

I am still looking for them to push it harder, but so far it has done its job to the level where we feel comfortable getting started off on a production batch of them. Aside from functionality, I was looking for confirmation on fitment and complete function of the level sensor setup and everything, and there have been no issues with that either.

What was reported to me was that over the weekend they ran the car on a track with a heavy right that would always give them trouble anywhere below 3/4 tank. He said they ran the car down to 1/2 tank and experienced no issues.

In the situation of this product, if it works at any tank level, it will work at all tank levels. However, I still want them to test it more and bring it to lower tank levels because at lower tank levels it will effect what we are calling "recovery time".

I want to make sure that with even less fuel available to the factory pump assembly to send to our surge can, that the setup continues to work without any noticable fuel pressure drops. While we already know now that this product is definitely helping, I was looking to not only "help" this problem, but completely murder it. I want to hear that this is allowing you guys to run the cars to 1/4 tank or below.

when i instructed them how to plumb it, it was one of two plumbing maps that we have. it was the more simple one. This more simple configuration doesnt use one of the ports, we had them block it off. But that extra port is needed for the more complex plumbing map. While we believe the more complex map will offer greater functionality of the product, we also feel that it introduces more dynamic situations where a balance could possibly be disrupted causing a bizarre situation. It may not be possible to make it happen, but we dont know without trying that plumbing setup. We wanted to try the simple setup first because we figured it may actually work well enough that the more complex plumbing arrangement wouldnt even be needed. The first production batch will keep that extra port to block off... but if we find that nobody needs to try the complex plumbing map, we will end up just eliminating that port in production.

We are going to start gearing up to build a large batch of these shortly now. We have a couple things to finish up in the CNC and then we should be able to start. I am confident enough now that if any problems should arrise from this point forward, it would be resolveable within adjustments to the plumbing.
