Guess my top speed and win a prize!
Pretty excited. Last minute opportunity to run the Amery Autocross and Straight-Away Speed Run. It will be my first autocross!
Honestly, with the turbos I'll just be hoping to not make a fool of myself...but that runway. Well that is a different story. It is 1/2 a mile and starts out of the autocross' last turn. Would love to put 100 octane in the tank but 500hp on 91 in a Z on a tight autocross course will be hard enough to tame. At least I have my Hankook R-S3s in 305s on the car. So the airstrip section is gunned. I'm offering up a $25 gift card to the place of your choice to the person that guesses my top speed without going over (guess needs to include 10th). $50 if you nail it to the tenth (hundreds dropped). NO DUPLICATES...you can see what everyone is guessing! Car: 2010 370Z running 93 octane on a 91 tune and 10lbs of boost. Fast Intentions twin turbo, 2.5" test pipes and TDX catbacks with 100 cell inserts. Dyno with 91 octane is 493hp and 462 torque. Go! |
Oh crap! The limiter! I hope Sebastian turned that off! If not, bet is off. Haha.

I've been thinking about this since Arrvaxx stated I hope they turned the limiter off'
A 370 will go... 100-110-ish in 1/4 mile. A FI one, 120-ish. In a standing mile a stock 370 will go about 140. That being said... I'll go with 139.7 |

Honestly, I should put a bit lower (I think my first guess was 137.6-137.8). But I'll pray |
141.3

88 mph then you went back in time to take off the rev limiter. Then you ended up with 133.6.

137.5

Default speed limiter won't kick in till ~160 or 165, I forget which. Shouldn't be an issue in a 1/2 mile run.
I'll go with 142.0, but I think that's pretty optimistic. |
What does the car weigh? And what is sidewall size of the rear tires?

I misread the flyer...it was ON a 1/2 miles strip. The run was 1000'ish. I was told that even though it was shorter than a quarter most people ran their 1/4 mile times because of the rolling start out of the autocross' last turn. That being said...I placed 9th out of 55 cars at 124mph. I could have broken 130 but I couldn't get out of the autocross final turn clean. The cars that were faster were all in the 130s except for a 800hp 1966 Chevelle that blew everyone away at 151mph. Surprisingly he did really well on the autocross portion too! Amazing car and driver. - 3 were V6 (EVO 10 twin turbo w/built motor and 2 Cadillac CTS twin turbos with builts). - Other 5 were all supercharged V8s. 3 Mustang 5ltrs, the Chevelle, and a Nova. Also interesting was that of the 8 cars that were faster than me on the straight only 4 were also faster on the autocross course. I really felt good about the Z. If I had been able to go get my OEM fronts swapped with my 275/35x19 RS-3 I bet I could have broken 46 seconds. Next year I am going on a 100 ocatane tune and going to use half of the runs to maximize the straight run. This was my first autocross so while the straight was fun I really wanted to end the day on the top half of the autocross leader board. An interesting sidenote: I let the guy that wound up with the fastest autocross run drive my car. I wanted to see what it could do with a real driver behind the wheel. Was a great decision as it gave me a target to shoot for. If his time had been valid (in his own car) he would have posted the 7th fastest lap! In a car he'd never driven...single attempt. His autocross car is a Spider and daily an Audi RS8. Remember...first event so yeah I know I did a lot of things wrong! I was just glad to not embarrass myself and be on the top half of the leader board. |
Oh...and if you watch one thing watch the run that starts at 7:15. WTF happened after the first turn. You can't miss it. Was that fuel starvation? On 3/4 of a tank? Of 7 runs that was the only time the car ever hesitated. Thoughts?
|
Seems like you did almost a full 360 to the right just before that fuel starve? I can't make sense of the layout from the video anyways, but long hard right-handers at a full G or more will starve this car by 3/4 tank for sure.
Also, while I don't really do autocross, my first thought on improving your times from seeing the video was to do everything earlier. In some critical corners you end up not really getting on the throttle until you're way past the apex and you've just about completely straightened out before you give it any real gas, which isn't ideal. Brake earlier and get on maintenance-level throttle through the apex to pin the rear down for more traction, and you should be able to hold more mid-corner speed and then put the power down faster as you track out. Nice driving! :) |

The first turn is a 360, yes. You come in wide then cut in around the center cone. The thing is that I did 7 runs and this was the only time it ever happened. I don't think that was the highest constant G run through that section. Maybe it was...maybe the other runs were just a little less? I don't know but that needs to get fixed. |

Talk to phunk (CJ Motorsports), they probably can do something for you. I'm not sure what he recommends for both fuel starve issues + FI, it's probably not just the standard Road Race Pump kit. Maybe that + return fuel and a bigger pump? |
