Default my 370z vs. 350z Supercharger S3

Went to the drag strip the other night. First time out with the 370z. Forgot my tire gauge so i wasnt able to lower my psi and found out yesterday it was at 47psi....way to high for drag racing. Couldnt get traction in 1st or 2nd at all, even with VDC on. Only mod i have is Stillin G3 Intake.

So first race i went up against a blue 350z with a supercharger and stage 3 pulley on it. Talked to the guy before the race and he has alot of suspension work done but not alot for power...besides the supercharger which sounded awesome. Anyways I ran a 14.179 @ 101.75mph (60' 2.331) He ran 14.162 @ 100.34mph (60' 2.058) If i had my tire psi lower i probably could have beat him but oh well...that was my best time of the night, i wanted to get into the 13's but the altitude sucks where i live. Anyways heres 2 videos...first one is against the 350z. Second one was against a mustang.

Hey, practice makes perfect!
I think you did a great job, any other mods you plan on doing?
I think our z's have a decent amount of power, I wanted to work on the suspension first!

14.2 @ 100 MPH for a supercharged 350Z? Wow...that's embarassing.

BTW, lower pressure in street-tires does not help traction.

I missed that part.

Why the hell were the tires inflated to 47 PSI in the first place.

47 psi was what it came like from the dealership. I lowered it to 32psi for normal driving and ill probably either leave it at that or drop it to 30psi at the track. Tried to go again last night but the road was blocked leading to the raceway because some retard thought it would be cool to drift out of the raceway onto the main road...he didnt see the car that was coming down the road at 80kmh and hit him...both cars writen off and 2 people in the other car seriously hurt. By the time i got to the strip there was only 2hrs of racing left for the night and over 150 cars so i said screw it and headed home.

As for the 350z making a 14.1 pass. Think he was having traction issues as well. In the video you can hear the supercharger whinning as the tires spin. Dont think the track was prepped right.

As for my future plans for my Z...i have no idea. Something big though. Either stage 2 twin turbo, or stage 1 or 2 supercharger with a 100 shot of nitrous. Havent decided yet. I want to get into auto x but the car is A. going to be my DD and B. set up for the drag strip.

Street-tires perform at their optimal level at a given pressure, be it handling or straight-line traction. Dropping the pressure for the drag-strip will only hurt you, if anything at all, although only 2 PSI is not enough to show this.

The laws of lower pressure in drag-tires for proper buckling of the sidewall do not apply for 19", low-profile radials. You will alter the contact-patch upon launch. Google will find you a ton of information on this.

"Traction issue" aside, it still only went 100 MPH. Your MPH will tell you how fast the car is regardless of how it hooks. Still, even if it was spinning half-way down the track, it should have ran quicker.

Supercharged 350Zs have been failing to impress.

As for the street tires, i guess i was mis-informed about that, thought it didnt matter what type of tires they were and lowering psi will help. Oh well, im still learning. There is only 4 more street legal nights for the year. Next year ill be buying either drag radials or slicks. Havent decided which would be better for me, i know radials would be good for a pretty much stock 370z, however i have big plans for my Z so iiunno if i should just go straight to slicks. What do you guys think?

As for the guy with the 350z. I know he had traction issues cuz i can hear the whine of the supercharger, i dont want say negitive comments on how he drives because im not doing much better.

whats the elevation there? I'll calculate your elevation power loss to a time at sea level.

A super-ed 350 ran a 14? I'd just drive right by the booth, forget my slip, and act like it never happened. Just leave the track and never come back.

well depending on elevation, Supercharger systems lose 2-3 psi at 3500 ft ASL, which could be the problem, lack of power. 18-20% can be lost at around 4000 ft, 20% is ALOT of lost ponies.

Dude, even then, thats a pitiful time. Im fairly sure the previous generation Mustangs (260HP 4.6L, before the retro styling) were able to click off low 14's in their cars, stock. NO excuse for running that kind of time other than shitty driving, or a problem with the car.
