Planning out my upgrades

Hi everyone...Just purchased my Z a month ago (promptly put it in storage...cold up here!) and spending the winter months planning/purchasing my upgrades. The car will be a driver/occasional use track car...and getting ready, eventually, to run it in the 2015 One Lap of America. Here is the caveat...It is "unofficially" my wife's summer fun car, so I made a promise to her that other than the exhaust, she will barely notice any changes..to which she agreed, as long as the exhaust isn't TOO loud.

So I will be doing some upgrades in stages, and I don't want to purchase anything that is going to become useless later.

So what I'm looking for is feedback on my plan of attack. I would prefer people who KNOW their stuff..ie, no "I like this exhaust because it sounds better". NOTE, I also race Spec Miata, many years of Solo and Prosolo, WKA karting...blah blah blah...I'm not a novice.

So enough with the intro..here is my plan:

This Winter:

Oil cooler (FI new kit)
CJM Fuel Pump
Stillen Brake Ducting
Stillen G3 intakes
Stillen CBE
FI Resonated HFC
Uprev Tune

Then:

Front and Rear Whitelines Swaybars
SPL Endlinks
Robitech Harness Bar
Diff Cooler cover (until I get a quaife)

By next year:

18x10 square setup Forgestar wheels
Bilstein Coilovers
SPL camberarms? (still researching these)

Eventually a Quaife Diff...

Let the feedback, and discussion, begin. And thanks for your help!

Dot 4 fluid in the brakes and clutch too.

Guess I should have said that, but yes. Will use castrol GTLMA...same as my SM. Thanks for reminder though

I destroyed my factory clutch in 31k miles but I was also learning how to heel toe with this car so that could be the reason why!

A few things:

1) If I recall correctly there are better CBE's from a performance standpoint. Fast Intentions would be a good one.

2) You might want to make sure you can actually get the Robispec harness bar. I know people have been claiming they can't contact Robi.

3) Also, I don't see race seats on your list. I assume you'll be getting harnesses since you're getting a harness bar which means you'll need proper seats to use the harnesses.

4) Also might want to plan on having to change the clutch slave cylinder to the Z Speed cylinder at some point. The stock cylinder is prone to failure when the car is used aggressively.

Pretty close to my setup besides the wheels. Fine for the street and pretty good on the track as well.

Ditching the stock slave cylinder is definitely a requirement in any 370z that is to be called any form of dependable. It has the be the #1 cause of 370zs ending up on a flatbed.

Does bilstein make coilovers for our cars?

cossie1600 01-19-2014 11:56 PM

Yes PSS10, but I have never seen one for sale used.

Zauskycop 01-19-2014 11:59 PM

Yes they do.

Fuel starvation is probably #1

Learning how true this is this week in fact. Phunk you still have any fuel systems left to buy. If so I will grab one when it's ready.

WHAYZ MAH DAMN DIFF COVER!

To OP, Diff is a great upgrade but right now no one can buy a diff cover- Nismo says 3-4 more weeks. I doubt it. Phunk still needs convincing there is a need.

And also, you should never let the marriage license and the state get in between you and your exhaust. Besides, chicks dig loud cars.

How true, except my chick is 49 years old... ;) Her loud cars stage is well past.

On another note...worried (if I do go the FI exhaust) about it being too low...opinions on scraping? when I go with the 18" rims it WILL lower the car a bit...

Don't know how much of a drop the Bilsteins will make but at stock ride height on my 18" autox wheels I don't scrap at all and am not even close. It's all about being smart on entering driveways and such.
