New/Better Wheel Option for Spec Z

Hey Spec Z people! I am working with a wheel manufacturer to get a perfect fitment wheel available for Spec Z. I built a car recently for a customer and had to buy special custom ordered hub centric 20mm spacers to get the current Enkei RPF1's to fit right. The off the shelf spacers normally sold with them are hub centric to the car but not to the wheel which kinda defeats the purpose. I hate running spacers or lame plastic rings so I wanted a better option.

Anyway, since I see no reason to run 10's in the rear, at least not enough to kill the convenience and cost effectiveness of running a completely square setup and being able to rotate tires front to back, the wheel would be...

18x9" Hubcentric, +15 offest (no spacers!), wide bolt whole bore for quick changes in enduro's, and cost would be on par with what we are paying for Enkei's.

So who would be interested?

i would def. be down. I have been looking for quite some time. My only thing is i would want a 18x9.5 to put 275's on it correctly. Also of course the price close to rpf1's in the same size or... i could sell my left testie and not have to worry about money for my expensive hobby.

But you might have something going here. I dont care about the looks because they would only be on the car on weekends.

Has the 370z been allowed in Spec Z??

The problem is per the rules you can't run 9.5's up front. So you would be running 9's up front and 9.5's or 10's in the rear. I have thought on this a lot and it just doesn't make sense for a club car in a spec class trying to be cost effective to run a non square setup. I have personally run on 9's all the way around and beat the track record at Buttonwillow earlier this year. As of now I see no reason to run anything but 9's.

PM me your info if you are interested and I will keep you up to date. And tell your friends!

Hold the phone, I heard through the grapevine that 9.5" wheels might be allowed up front next season... in which case we would definitely spec out a 9.5" square setup given the option.

Brian, keep me in the loop.

I am T&S Director and very involved with NASA Northeast for the past 12+ years. My SpecZ racers will want to know about these for sure.

Yeah I will definitely make a post when I know more, waiting for 2014 rules to be released before any decisions are made.

Ok, since NASA has released the 2014 rules stating 10" wheels will be allowed up front, that is what I want to spec out for this Spec Z perfect fitment wheel.

Again it will be 18x10", no hub rings or spacers required. Who is interested? Send me a PM with your email so I can send out more details and we can see about getting a group buy going!

Hey Brian any update on the wheels?

wstar 01-22-2014 02:24 AM

Sorry, been busy with other projects and haven't given an update.

Still waiting for more interest, only have about 5 people interested right now. We need to get about 20 sets sold to make it happen. So tell your friends and PM me! :)

I found that +15 was perfect on 9" wheels front and rear. These will be ten with the extra width added on the inside. I haven't done the math to give a number...

My 18x10 square setup on the 370 is +34, and I use a 10mm spacer on the back just to make it look a little better with the 370's fender flares. Given 1 inch is 25.4mm, that should be equivalent to about +9 on 18x9's? So it sounds like your 18x9+15 setup (or 18x10 equivalent) is splitting the difference to avoid worrying about a rear spacer, which sounds totally doable on the 370.

I know these are for SpecZ 350's, but you might sell more if they work for the 370's here too. Sounds to me like they probably will.

Good point thanks! I am sure these wheels would be great for the 370 track day crowd as well.
