NASA VIR Recap

Good showing of Zs at VIR this weekend! Mike, onelownismo, travis and myself representing in 370s and an equal contingent of 350s in Spec Z and TTB. Alas I did not get to catch up with travis and study his car before he had to jet off. The rest of us camped out in Mike's garage and had a blast despite wet, drying, and almost dry conditions.

I was able to get in a 2:16.531 in the only dry session of the weekend. Not bad for a street car on street tires. Then tried to scare onelownismo in the final rainy session. My stock diff was trying to kill me all weekend (high on the to-fix list) and I tore up another nismo undertray.

Pics, video, data to come

My pops lives right in Leesburg, I wonder if you guys go any of the same track days. I want to come out there and race his 997S.

It was great meeting and hanging with everyone this weekend. I also did a 216 on my RE-11s in the dry my first session. only did two more session for the weekend though. 2 students just drained me! I need to figure out what to change on the car to get it more stable in the wet. Anything more than damp and its like I'm on ice.

I'm still kind of physically exhausted. Got home at 11 last night. Thank God I was towing in the Porsche and not the Frontier this time, or I'd really be beat.

The diff thing is really interesting. Seems like a different brand is a must. What does Travis run?

Had a great time! Was nice meeting everyone. Not sure about my times as my laptimer did not work correctly haha. I will figure it out next time.

Jason you only scared me a little haha.

I always hear:
soften sway bars
soften shocks
soften springs

The first two aren't hard, the third kinda is. I guess the idea is to increase weight transfer for better grip.

Mike was it just the rear for you as well? I still had plenty of front grip in the wet.

My rear swaybar was already disconnected. Stock nismo shocks/springs.

I have stock everything, the car still isn't good in the rain. The rear diff has to tendency to send the car into drift mode, which is great if you like to drive sideway, but it sucks when you want to drive fast. The fat tires on the Z don't help either.

2:16 is a great time on a stock Nismo, you were a little more than half a sec quick than me on a stock sport car

It was everywhere, front and rear. I would be in a solid state turn and all of the sudden the car would just lose traction on all 4 wheels and drift off to the side. And the tiniest throttle input would also unsettle it.

The tires were great in the damp though, just not with standing water and constant rain. I had just been thinking about how much grip they had right before I spun in the transition from 16 to 17. :)
