How much oil damage was done?
I did a light lapping day on fresh synthetic oil, but even with a 25 row oil cooler was seeing peak oil temps between 250-270 degrees. I am changing the oil and am going to send it off for analysis. The oil (and filter) will have less than 500 miles on it, most of which was driving to/from the track.
What do you think? |

I'm not so sure. I'm hearing bearing degradation once you go above 240 degrees for period of time. 260 to 270 sounds like danger zone. You have probably done damage to bearings already.

If there is bearing degradation past 240 then my engine should blow by now and will be in trouble soon lol. With 34 row cooler and stock cooler my engine oil runs up to 260 at the track. Ran about 35+ track days w 20-25 min sessions. Car has 27k miles right now.
Plan is do run one more oil cooler and try to bring temps down to 220-240 on hot laps |

Might as well just throw it away now.
On a more serious note, if the car did not go into limp mode, you should be fine. Since you're changing the oil anyway there shouldn't be any issues.

"Light Lapping" = running about 6 to 7/10's on street tires. For reference my personal best on that track is 1:21 in a stock Miata (I don't track the Porsche). I was running 1:25-1:27 in the Z....definitely not pushing it at all. "How many Sessions" = open lapping, maybe 100 miles on track, no more than 25 minutes at a time and usually ran no more than 2 or 3 laps once oil temps went over 250. The car never went into limp mode. My vote was for "no issue" on my poll, but given what appears to be some hysteria relating to the Z oil temps I was interested to see what the track guys thought the results would be. Haven't gotten the results back yet, but I have been surprised before. |

Lets check in at 30 to 40K mark on your motors that run into 260 range. My motor felt like it was running great too! However I had opportunity to have it torn down at fairly low miles too. Rarely saw over 240 usually and a couple of spikes to 260. ...It wasnt pretty. Had it failed? ... no. but lots of scoring. I'll take word from guys building these motors that what seems to be moderate oil temps can impact surface of crank bearings. Those temps in higher range start process to early bearing failure.
Want to talk about what higher than stock RPMs (8000) can do to VQ heads? I know about that too. LOL! I was a doubter too until I saw the damage first hand. I had total of 30 minutes running time with 8000 RPM redline in short 2 minute hillclimbs and AX. Honestly if I stuck with stock VQ i'd probably limit my track work based on what I have seen on my low mile motor.
