Conti challenge: Laguna Seca

at it next week and our return trip out west.
2 races to go for the 2013 season.
Its been a mixed bag of emotions this year as the new developments on the car have proven to make the car extremely competitive... But only one podium ....
Kansas Speedway was def a great track for our Z ...hitting the banking flat out pulling over 1.7G's a 150+mph was fun.
Now back to Laguna seca where we lead last year and again seemed to have things going our direction till contact with a BMW going up te hill move us back.
Looking forward to once again battling a low grip track in the California sun.
Did somebody say 1:33's?
;)

SS_Firehawk 08-27-2013 07:24 PM

1:33's is moving! I'm back home now, I'll def tune in

Shamu 08-27-2013 10:54 PM

You should have braking advantage. Seems like you have closed the gap on power to weight. Still a long haul from 11 over hill down to 2 and from 6 to top of hill with power cars around you. If you get out in front you should do great. Who will be driving?

I always laugh when I hear people say sunny California when they are going to fog capital of California. Coldest time of year in Monterey is often June through August sometimes into early September.. You could very well be treated to cold drizzle.

1:33 sounds about right for a goal. Randy Pobst put a street legal 2013 ZR1 corvette and a Street legal 2013 Viper ACR around the track at 1:33

I so want to go to this, grandma's 80th surprise party ironically enough back in Ohio. I'll make sure Ohio is OK while you are gone, keep an eye on Cali for me that weekend-and let's win this one ;)

TopElement 08-28-2013 02:14 PM

See you there! I'll be at the track all weekend.

Correction. There is no Viper ACR for 2013. ;) He did it with a Viper T/A. With slicks. I think it went 1.31. Hopefully the ACR Viper is out in '15. :yum:

Dwnshift 08-28-2013 09:01 PM

Our 2013 spec tires have been about .75 to 1 second quicker compared to 2012 spec... Last year 1:35.5
It will be a tough race for sure.
Brad J. Is back for the last 2 races.

Rusty 08-28-2013 11:08 PM

Hopefully the monkey fines a bar someplace. Getting drunk on his a$$, and forgets to show up.

Correction he did the 133 in was the viper TA, i dont keep up with all the viper designations, however he was on DOT R tires not slicks. Still ripping fast for a street car on street legal tires.

P3 today
Track is hoooooorrible.
34s are not an option at this juncture.
Only have 1 am session and it's tomorrow at 10 am

ChrisSlicks 09-07-2013 07:55 AM

No grip? Greasy track?

Good luck out there.

Shamu 09-07-2013 06:38 PM

Looks like they qualified P6 with 137

Actually ended up P5 as the Aston that took pole got sent to the back of the field for an infraction (didn't have traction control disabled).

Dwnshift 09-07-2013 11:37 PM

Track is sloooooow.
Brad did a great job on quali today... Looking forward to this one

danegrey 09-08-2013 08:14 AM

The Nismo is doing well against some serious competition! 2nd place right now. Too bad it's not a 2 car team.

Shamu 09-08-2013 02:54 PM

Looks like they ended up just off the podium in 4th? Nice effort!

danegrey 09-08-2013 03:51 PM

nice finish guys

dastaco 09-08-2013 04:05 PM

Finished 3rd I believe, the 3rd place car got a penalty

Assuming this is true that means 2 podiums in the last 3 races. Hopefully this leads to more sponsorship money and maybe a consistent driver pairing and/or a 2nd team car.

That was craaaaazy.
The race broadcast will be one to watch.
Never give up....keep digging... Even when they kick you in the shins.
A lot happened in the last hour of this race.
Got a huge run on a BMW only to have him move over on me...hit me off track...hit me again..he got sideways...and then he came back 3 laps later to dump me.
Next...we got a penalty for avoidable contact... Mind you...we were the ones that got hit TWiCE!
The 48 car also was told to report to the pits for a drive through after dumping me...and never did.
With 5 minutes left ...we went from p11 to p4 after a huge melee on the front stretch.
Look for the whole...go through thesmoke and pray.
The winning car ran out of gas in turn 1 @ th checkered flag.
The 48 finished p3 but never served its penalty.
We have been told we will be moved to p3 ...but didn't get to celebrate on the podium.
We are awaiting "final" results...
All in all it was insane... And again really happy for the team !
The track went to absolute junk and we were very quick on a slick track.
Now....going to th 48s trailer to claim our trophies...and head to the bar!

Rusty 09-08-2013 05:42 PM

:tup::excited:

IMHO the avoidable contact penalties in both the Rolex and Conti series this year have been a joke. From my stand point it seems as soon as a car tries to make a move on another and the lead car makes a late block causing contact it's always the car making the initial move that gets the penalty. Complete BS if you ask me. If they can't see the move coming and block when they should, it's the blocking car that should receive the penalty. /end rant

thekinn 09-08-2013 07:22 PM

Wow! very cool to see you came back - nice little write-up. :) Can't wait to watch it next weekend.

ChrisSlicks 09-08-2013 07:27 PM

Nice job and nice recovery!

Dwnshift 09-09-2013 04:32 AM

Blocking and swerving ... Are not racing.
Officials have to see the entire incident before making calls.
Basically we reported to the pits and did our drive through ...and the 48 car refused to obey the call and got awarded for disrespecting the officiating.
So... What message does this send to the drivers?

Fishey 09-09-2013 05:37 AM

B.J. Did Grand-Am atleast buy you drinks first?

Honestly, In-Car and Jalopnik with story.... but sadly this will likely only hurt you in the future.

Dwnshift 09-09-2013 01:08 PM

Nope

thekinn 09-09-2013 04:30 PM

:bs: I haven't even seen it yet and I'm pissed.. I can't imagine living it.

Dwnshift 09-13-2013 09:33 AM
