STR, and in particular the specific exclusion of the Nismo is a joke. They even amended the rules at the same time to clarify that larger than 255 stock tires were not allowed. First thing a Z owner has to do to run in a decent class is downgrade.

I think STU would be ideal for the 370Z but have had no luck in petitioning the boards.

Onelownismo, in the meantime, as a novice, you should put your cats back on and quietly run in C-Stock. I'll see you at VAC?

Hmmm I'm still a little lost on the classing. After reading this thread it looks like I'd be in ASP? Could someone help me out and take a look at my mod list / give me a little direction? Thanks! Actually have my second event ever with the Z coming up this Sunday. Placed 3rd out of 19 in novice my first time around 2-3 weeks ago. So pumped to do it again!

ASP. Get yourself a set of sticky R-Comps and have fun.

Just curious, what class you were running for that first event you did?

I really don't like the idea of downgrading my car. I think I'll take my chance with ASP and get some R-comps next time I get tires.

I'm on the waiting list for the VAC (if you're talking about the same thing that I think you are). If I don't get into it I may just go and spectate.

Ah crap lol I was running novice STR. Obviously it's not such a big deal unless you're really competing seriously? Will it make a difference if I do novice STR vs ASP this time around? Thanks again!

Don't most clubs prefer you run novice a few times before switch anyways?

Here in my region everyone runs in the normal class they're supposed to be in. After the event they just take the Novices and out of they're class and do results based on the PAX index.

Buying off the shelf stuff will only get you about 90% of the way there to a full prep SP car...

Order of importance:
1) Instruction
2) Seat Time
3) Better Instruction
4) Seat Time
5) Seat Time
6) A6's or R1S-if you have a codriver and live in the desert
7) Real Diff
8) Suspension
9) Power
10) Weight
11) Aero

Yes. Someone has to keep the DSP Bimmers honest...

Car hasn't run since April due to some breakage at the Dover Tour. That said, the front aero is now done, car will be on the dyno next week for an E85 tune, and I've made some other set-up changes as well. Going to have to relearn the car during the Sat morning session.

There is the Tuner Car Challenge (CHA) class. That's for drivers with less than 3 years Solo competition experience and cars that do not naturally fit into open classes, and the year end champion will not be eligible for this class in subsequent years.
We have a pretty good sized CHA class here in my my region and they like to push you into an actual class after a year of running that champion or not. I never run CHA, I started right off in DSP in my S14.

Also the word I've been hearing is that the stock class will no longer run race tires, and will be street tire class next year, hopefully I've heard this right.

First off, the CHA class is not a normal class that is run everywhere. Some SCCA regions create their own classes to fit their specific needs. In my region, since we have a lot of national level competitors we tend to follow the national level rules pretty strictly.

Secondly the Stock classes being moved to street tires for next year is correct. It is possible that SS will continue to use R-Comps although that doesn't affect us and our Z's. Additionally allowed modifications for Stock classes will possibly change next year as well.

For next year (2014) there will be BOTH Stock as it exists now and the new Street (stock w/ street tires and lots of classing changes). In 2015 Stock goes completely away and we are left with Street.

The FRS/BRZ move is just a proposal. If you disagree with the move you should let the SAC/SEB know. SEB Letter Submission Form
