Me and some of my old Maxima friends went out to Dallas raceway. Decided to see what the 370 could do.
6spd
Mods
AEM CAI
Nismo 370 oem exhaust

First time in the Z had to feather at about 2300rpm to give me these times. Anything else spin.... I think I need to upgrade to wider rims instead of these 245 width base 18's.

Last run so close to 13.4
axmea? and Eighties Meta like this.

that seems pretty good. Although rather than new rims, get an LSD and just wider tires on the 18's. I went 245/45/18 on the front and 275/40/18 on the rear and it sure does feel alot better. 3k for rims and tires when you get an LSD and just widen em up a bit on the 18s seems like a more cost effecient route. I'm sure some of the experts will chime in, i'm certainly not one.

if your looking for bang for your buck you are correct! ^ also go to a stickier tire. perhaps an RE-11 or Michelin PSSs

Noobie here, few questions as this topic intersts me. Maybe should take part of it to another thread, but:

To OP: On a quarter mile run using a 6 spd M, can you give me a low down on where the "correct" shift points are on the different gears. I keep getting answers from shift to second at 3500 RPM, shift at redline for every gear, etc. Maybe it is a completely individual thing and tied to your specific car/style. but I have to believe there is some consensus on the stock gearing of the 370Z that there ideal shift points at certain RPM's. I have only owned this car for 1 week so still sort of learning it and have not been to the track at all.

Also, I never see anyone that seems to use > 275 mm tires on the rear of the Z. I bought mine with 285's on it. The foose wheels that are on it are I think actually for a mustang. Is there much difference?

I too am looking at putting some trackable 18's on my car. I feel the 19" foose's are mainly a show tire. Can someone recommend me a good 18" setup/brand purely for track. I'm pretty decent with tires, but I fail @ wheels.

He's using a base auto, the cars make almost all their power up top, no reason to short shift it. 275's are recommended because he is wearing 18" rims. 285's are more common with 19's. Better rubber will definitely help.

Regarding your shift points, try a 3500rpm launch and just redline each gear. Turn off VDC. If you have a sport package, they should be Rays, I could curb stomp someone if it were not the case unless they are replaced with an equivalent wheel.

Don't let the username fool you 6spd manual is what I have.

I was shifting at redline basically, I have the shift light set at 7400 so gives me time to make sure I don't bump rev limiter. (Damn car is still so damn quiet compared to my stick 04 Maxima it screamed with CAI so I could shift more by sound and sounded sexier )

Shift @ 3500 to 2nd, you won't be getting anywhere doing that.

But this track has no prep and the headwind was something serious that day, so I know the car has a little more in it.

I actually want 19"s....Once I find a cheap set of sport or Nismo wheels I'll be upgrading. But my first choice is Nismo since not common on non Nismo's.

Your doing better than me with the times. I have full exhaust and a tune and i cant break past 13.6. My stock tires are in bad shape though and probably have alot to do with that. I hope to hit at least 12.9 after getting some better tires. Good runs though!

Tire compound (not width) and a limited slip diff will give you the biggest gains.

With stickier 245's on it and an LSD you'd be closer to 13.2

Wow that was a close race 7! I'm assuming from your name your an auto?....
Interesting my buddy has an 08 HR with Injen intakes and heavy aftermarket 18s and he's ran a 13.05 and does 13.1-13-7 continuously... and isn't tuned... not hating on you at all... some people can't even get in the 13s but I'm just curious if anyones ever ran head to head HR vs 370?

Haha yeah I'm manual . But there were 2 HR at track ,well at least 1 for sure and autos. from what they said they just had intake ,exhaust. high 13s to low 14 is what they ran. But I swear 1 run he hit 13.5 and traps weaspabout 101 at most. Only place I might be leaving something on table is my launch but my shifts are fast as fk.

Before dropping $$$, just keep practicing and/or get some sticky tires. Mods are no good if you can't put the power down.
