Road Atlanta Vid and Report. Plus YAW Sensor Review
Here's my RA vid from yesterday. Had a blast. This was the first time I've been on the track since last year June when I had my misfortunate incident in the rain. So I was real rusty and lost some of those keen senses. Plus the major fact just fear cause of my crash last time. But by the end of the day my confindence was better than it used to be. But even though I played it safe this time I plan to really hit it up next time (in about 3 weeks). So my times are not what they were but that's not what this day needed to be about.
I know one thing for sure. My car is now setup perfect. No understeer or oversteer. It rotates like a dream. No matter how hard I was pushing it. It was pure planted. Felt like I could threw it into any turn as hard as I wanted and it stayed planted. Even though I didn't push it 100% but I'm more than positive I can. Even on the exit of the turns I could just put the throttle down and no slip with my setup. On top of all that my AP BBK (up front only) and Carbotech XP10/ XP8 held up nicely There is no doubt next time I will be bringing it in deeper with confindence no problem. It was just that great. Review Of Removing Yaw Sensor In reguards to the second paragraph and why I feel my car handles so much better in the braking zones, apex, and most importantly exit of turns. I've been doing a lot of research on the yaw sensor and VDC in our cars. What has always bothered me is when you turn the VDC off the car still had 10% of control. Which isn't much but at times in the past the slip light would still come on and you still feel the lost power. So I wanted to rid of this cause I feel I can more than handle my car and that the car just plays it safe which robs us track guys. I want control over my car not the ECU, ABS (certain aspect),and YAW. So I knew that removing the yaw sensor would get rid of the left over VDC (the 10% portion). But what else does this do I wondered? So I began a search and came up with this article from a company that I happen to hear of and follow a lot. SOHO Racing. Here's the article G35Driver - View Single Post - Nissan Z/G VDC & Yaw Sensor vs ECU Tuning This answers alot of questions for my self. Losing power to your car from the timing being retarded sucks. Mostly for myself you are not only be robbed of power but traction too. Our cars need more power put down and the traction to do it for we are alreay limited by our NA motors as is. And the Yaw sensor that works with the ECU and ABS robs us of this. I know this now after reading and personal experience. Now that removed I felt my car in combination with the suspension and LSD I can now put down the extra power through proper traction now that's not being limited by the reduced power threw the drivetrain and brakes. Brakes being they are applied to either side of the car pending results of the ECU, ABS, and YAW sensor that from a result of the total slip angle combination, even though your not on the brakes. There were absolutly no issue from the brakes or brake bias from me doing this. I know some of you guys that experience the so called ''ice mode" are going to be like WTF. But I've never had that issue and this mod didn't effect MY car any. If you choose to do this know what your doing and understand it. Read and reread articles related to ABS and Yaw sensor and how they operate. Really no difference than turning off VDC.

Don't know if you know the answer but if you reinstall the yaw sensor do the abs and slip lights just go back off or is there some procedure to reset the system?
Just thinking it might be nice to wire in a switch to disable the yaw sensor so that for street driving it's there but once you're at the track it's just a flip of a switch to disable it.

I like to say it would. I have but my slip light has always been on due to removing the steering wheel sensors. The ABS light doesn't come due to unplugging the YAW.
Also note (which the article I posted already said) you still have all ABS fuctions with pulling the yaw.

I've heard of that being done also. For myself I was cleaning up the harness of the car. This is the only one I didn't cut. I just rolled it up in case.

I don't know that it really makes a difference, since we dont have the sensors in the steering wheel anymore, it isn't getting any input on where it thinks the car wants to be. Thats why all the lights are on on the dash to begin with.

Also at the same time these lights will come on for multiple reasons. One reason might not affect the other. Especially the slip angle coming from the Yaw.

Great job Spohn, good to see you get back out there.
Way over my head all this YAW stuff ... I am banking on a simple brake booster reserve canister mounted to the firewall to fix my brake issues. If not I guess I better learn more about this.

Nice find! Back in my 350 days we would just remove the VDC fuse but it would disable the ABS. Car felt great without the restrictions.
