What pads and rotors are people using?

What do you guys use on the track? How do you like them? have you tried anything else? Ive used Carbotech RP2, Cobalt XR2 and am currently on Carbotech XP10. Im really happy with Carbotech but love trying new and different products so Id love to hear opinions of what other people have tried.

Also is there a better street pad than OEM? Something with less dust?

Has anyone found a pad that they have successfully used for both street and track use?

Dwnshift 01-15-2013 06:30 AM

Pagid

Pagid RS 14 or 4-2

We have run 14 ,19's and 29's depending on track grip abd what we are going after. They have a newer compound for track day cars which may be something to look into.
In my experience; Pagids don't upset ABS systems and are much easier to modulate on corner entry. Their pad life is very good ...although sometimes its too good.

I run CL RC6's on (for the moment) DBA rotors. 5000 fronts and 4000 rears.

XP12f/XP10r felt really nice on R6s at Road Atlanta this December. I am going to try 12/12 on my 350Z this summer.

I really like the Bobcats for street. Decent bite no dust or noise and compatible with the XP pads.

Mike 01-16-2013 07:34 PM

I run XP12/XP12 when I run Hoosiers, Hawk Blue when I run the Nittos.

I do have stoptech brakes though and not sport package.

Do you know where can I get the RS29 for my sports brakes? I can't seem to find them anywhere...:icon14:

Does the "ice up" happen? Still have abs?

clintfocus 09-05-2013 11:45 PM

You chose the Endurance Racing Pad from Carbotech... interesting choice. I heard that the RP2 doesn't last as long when heat cycled many times. Designed for ONE big usage (enduro). Any thoughts on the subject??

I can get about 4 Track days out of a set of XP8 pads.

The OEM pads are FINE for daily driving... but better + less dust = no :shakes head:

Street / Track pad is a myth !! :stirthepot:

ChrisSlicks 09-06-2013 08:24 AM

DS 2500 - sucked (good on rear axle)
DTC 70 - good
CL6 - good
CL6e - better and longer life but harder on rotors
C300 - lower bite then CL6e similar wear

Sorry to bump an old thread, but just checking to see if opinions are the same in late 2015.
I need a new set of pads and rotors and want them to handle HPDEs. Ideally something that can handle a few years of HPDEs without having to change them again.
I also don't want to spend thousands if I can avoid it.

The length of time the track-pads last is entirely up to YOUR usage of them.

4x Track Brake pads from Carbotech run you about $350. They are easy on rotors, but will not last: "a few years."

Generally speaking i get 4-5 days out of a set of brake pads.
Consequently i get 4-5 days out of R-comp tires too.

Food for thought.

In what ways do brake pads effect ABS? Do low pads(oem) cause ABS light? front or rear?

  1. Too much aggressive pads in the front / rear will cause MORE lockup (ABS).
  2. HOWEVER, the OEM pads will not stand up to track duty... even for ONE day.

I recommend Carbotech XP8 unless you're running R-Comp tires @ the track, but that's a different conversation.

Thanks. :)
How has the Stillen brake ducting held up for you? Any issues?
I daily drive my car, so I was concerned if it would hold up to daily use.

GSS138 10-19-2015 10:00 AM

I have tried in order of preference favorite at the top:

Endless MX-72's
Currently on Hawk DTC's
Defigo's
Carbotech 10/8
Winmax 6

All very different experiences. I use OEM Sport akebonos, slotted Stoptech rotors up front, with oem replacement blank rotors in the rear.

Currently with the Hawk DTC's the bias is good but the DTC's are overkill for my RS-3 tires and they definitely get into the ABS a bit much. Albeit, they stop like a truck, but lack the feel of say an Endless pad, and are pretty hard on the rotors. I might take them off and save them for when I switch to the RC-1 tires.

Buddy of mine Anthony(he's on this forum somewhere), is trying out the Endless Me-20, I may switch to those based on his feedback. Would definitely like to try a Pagid or Performance Friction at some point as well.

Will probably try another Endless compound next, something above the MX-72.

What do you recommend for aggressive street driving with minimal noise/dust....oh god the dust:shakes head:

Rusty 10-19-2015 07:08 PM

My set-up is the stock Sport Akebonos, Stillen brake cooling ducts, Racing Brake 2 piece rotors, Ti brake pad heat shields, Z1 stainless brake lines, Motul 600 brake fluid, EBC Yellowstuff pads. The pads are done. Thinking on going with either the Carbotech 10/8 combo, the Pagids, or ????

The Yellowstuff pads are great for hard DDing. Good feel and bite. Some dust.

The OEM pads are great for anything but track duty.

They will hold up to a lot of heat and dust very little.
Stay OEM unless you're tracking it.

NOTE: OEM is ceramic

Stillen brake ducting is REQUIRED for any track duty.

I've had issues with the ducting not cooling ENOUGH... but the hoses and routing are all stable after 30,000 miles.

Used to run Carbotech XP10 Front/XP8 Rear on the stock sport package brakes with stainless lines (all brake components and pads are for sale currently)

Now have AP racing BBK with Mintex F3R in front and the Mintex xtreme in the rear. This weekend will be my first time trying this combo out on NT01 r comps.

I run PFC 08 although I also have a set of PFC 01. PFC 665 fluid. Whatever cheap blanks I can find.

I have the AP BBK in the front with mintex extreme and xp8 on the rear, stillen brake cooling. No issue with the brakes on the track. I can brake hard at the last second repeatedly.
