Questions about tracking a base
So I've decided to track my car but I have a couple of questions regarding the sad fact that I have a base model. I have an oil cooler and I'm ordering a set or continentals for the track. But as far as brakes go, is there a cheaper alternative to upgrading to the sport brakes? And is there anything else I need to track the car?
Thanks in advance. |
Better brake fluid for sure
Better pads and rotors will make a WORLD of difference too! |

Again, better pads, better slotted or driller rotors will help a lot with bite and you can get Titanium shims for behind the pads so they deflect heat... There isn't much.. Or anything else you COULD do |
Off topic...
But why are YOU awake? Lol |

Well, the only things you can do in terms of better braking without going to the SP are mentioned above, Good luck and be safe! |
Any help on what brake fluids and what pads are good?

At that point by the way, your tires will make a huge difference too
Brakes slow the car down, slam on them or press them hard enough, they lock up, rendering brake upgrades a waste of money Many people do not understand this. I can lock my wheels in .2 seconds, what is slowing me down at that point? How sticky my tires are. Oh brake ducting kit, that would be beneficial Also, warm your pads and rotors up, don't let them cool and track it like a mad man |
steel brake lines will make a huge difference along with the high temp fluid. You will cook the fluid if you are tracking hard and the rubber lines will heat up and expand.
Next you can use stock pads but they will not last you more than 2 days. Upgrade to some decent pads. I like endless pads. new 2 piece rotors are nice but obviously more money. At the very least do the ,lines/fluid and make sure you go with plenty of pad.I go with an extra set as back up. Note : this is only from my experience. Im sure there are other people that have much more info than me. |
First time ever tracking? You don't need a lot then. Upgrade the fluid and the oil cooler and you will be fine. At least if you are going with a reputable group like PCA or BMW with instructors who actually know what they are doing. After the first time, and you get faster, then all the other upgrades will be necessary, but as a first time track outing, you won't be pushing it near the limits.

Back on topic tho, thinking about buying a square setup that still looks good. Anyone have any good looking 18 inch square setups? |

mine is not a square set up but, just to show u how it looks . u could run this wheel in a square set up in the 18x10 +20 or 18x10.5 +15
TE37SL black edition im running 18x10 +30 and 18x11 +18 http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps603cb098.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps36c4b8fa.jpg |
Is anyone running a 19 inch square setup, I know that'd stress the engine more but I'd prefor the 19 inch look over 18s.
|
I've tracked mine with Motul RBF600 brake fluid and Carbotech XP8 brake pads (with my base brakes). I've only tracked it once so far and this setup was ok, it was my first time as well. Since you have a manual, you should probably upgrade the clutch fluid as well. Good luck and have fun!
