I went with static clings, haven't fallen off yet. Tried the reusable ones and they get dirty too fast. Just had my girl cut out numbers from the blank sheets. Not bad for $7.99.

Our doors are aluminum. He must be putting them on the rear quarter.

I have been watching hours of video mainly from wcdr solo and one thing that worries me is knowing which way to go once out there ... I notice the laid down pointer cone deals, and from videos that are "in car" perspective it doesn't look quite so bad but from the far away videos filming just the car going through the course it's like geezus how do they know where to go ... i suppose walking the course helps some ... pretty easy to know where to go on a race track, but this cone maze thing ... anyway is that a pretty typical newbie fear or am I fretting over nothing.

Had the same concern when I first started but after the first event I never worried about it again. The key is to walk the course. In the 2 years I've been autox'ing now, I've only ever seen one car blatantly go the wrong way. Also I know in my region, the more experienced competitors are more than happy to ride along and help most of the time too.

I read somewhere else that finding a spot on your hood that would equal right and left NOT smacking a cone and kind of aim using those marks.

You can practice that using the raised reflectors on the highway. Ease over until your wheel starts hitting it and you can then mark your spot on the hood/wiper/whatever spot you want.
