phunk's road race fuel pump install

Well, I finally got the fuel pump installed. Instead of going into details about the install. I took alot of pictures for you guys.

If you have any questions about it, please ask. If you are planning on doing this yourself. Give yourself a good day to do it. I took 3 days working on it part time. Read the instructions twice. Then read them again as you are going through each step. Write down you meter reading when you check the fuel level sender on the driver side. You will need this when you double check the sender after you have installed the pump. To make it easier. Remove everything inside the car. seats and panels. give yourself all the room you need. Soon as you remove the pass side pump and driver side sending unit. remove the o-rings and wipe them off. Seems like they don't like gas and air combination on them. They like to swell up if you don't wipe them dry. Get yourself a small camera and take pictures of inside the tank. So you know what it looks like. This makes it easier for when you are working in there.

There is a couple of pictures that should be here that I will not post out of respect for phunk's hard work on this.

Here, you have to write down your readings from the meter so you DON'T forget them later. This is for the sending unit on the driver side that you have to install back on phunk's fuel pump.

To get the main power wire up to the battery. I used a cut off coat hanger and pushed in down from the top of the main wiring harness hole. Once down through. I taped the main power wire to the hanger and pulled it back up. I don't have a picture, but I mounted the 30amp breaker on the fire wall behind that main wiring harness hole on the flat section. Just to the left of it.

Number the pages on the instructions. LOL So the one page you're looking for is not in the back of the last section after you print them out.

That's the one that bit me on the siphon hose. And what I mentioned about the sending unit mounting area.

Honestly I was looking for a setting in Word that put the page numbers on before I converted to PDF, I couldn't find it! I'm going to re-evaluate the sending unit mount, I found it strange you had trouble with that area... I will text you about it tomorrow, been meaning to ask you about it.

So in short, what is the benefit of this over stock??

The Z will fuel starve on track on right hand turns on less than about 80% fuel. This fixes that and you can go down to almost an empty tank. This is a must for serious track junkies.
