Drifting Session - 9/23/2012
Hey guys,
I'm not sure if many of you guys are into the motorsport of drifting, but me and a somewhat sizeable group of locals in South Florida went out drifting last night. Before anyone asks, we had police permission to drift here, and an officer was on duty at the event. It was for a friends birthday! The conditions were soaking wet, making it very easy for a night to learn to drift. This was my second time ever drifting my car, and I felt like I did alright! The videos below show one side of the drift track we devised, the other side continued into another left hander around a sharper curb. I gotta say...drifting is one hell of an adrenaline rush. The techniques I used were clutch kicking and e-brake. The wheels and tires in the rear were 18" M35 Sedan wheels with 245/50/R18 Goodyear Eagle RS-A (or something like that, can't remember). Our rear tires on the 19"s are way too expensive to drift on!

Just be hella careful brah, swing a little wide and clip the rear wheel into the curb and you got yourself into some super exspensive suspension repair and also drive line. Those other cars are easy to find replacement parts for. Pennys on the dollar compared to snapping the rear end out of yours. Spent 2 years in japan watching random guys occasionally clipping the curb and rolling the rim back to the future style up under the car. Even saw one guy come around a corner in an industrial yard full bore hit snap oversteer and went head first into a concrete wall. Motor was practically on his lap. Best way to practice is a big open parking lot with cones so if even going out to wide you dont scrub the wheel into anything. You wont find many 370z at the local pick and pull.
Looked fun none the less! |

Oh absolutely, I know the dangers and costs involved. All the 240 guys are tossing it around with no worries about any damages, haha. One of our friends out there that night with a Genesis Coupe unfortunately smacked the curb and bent the camber arm and lower suspension arm on her car. Also took a chunk out of one pf her drift spares. I took it real careful after that.
But yeah! Man, it was a blast. The next event they have coming up is more official, and is at Palm Beach International Raceway. I'm planning on buying another set of wheels to have multiple sets for when I go to do that event. The track has plenty of runoff, so it's gonna be next to remote to crash. I'm gonna take it slow and keep learning the feel of my car.
