I haven't seen a fully prepped one at the autox in CS. Has anyone seen a competitive driver on slicks and see how they fare?

Doubtful. One showed up at my division last weekend. Was a two driver car.....best time was 4 seconds behind the M Coupe that took first (I was not there to witness or compete). Hoping he shows up this weekend too so we can settle the dispute.

Good enough to take the overall RTR (11 entrants) win at the Packwood National Tour event.

Its tough to say right now. I think its too heavy compared to the miatas and is also hampered by really short gearing and an unkind rev limiter. With the MSR and ZOK out next year and people putting more development time into some of the other cars in the class who knows.

What's the biggest rubber you can fit on it, 245 all around or even 265? Power seems to be on par with the rx-8 with a little less top end from what I can see.

Just watched very well driven Scion toyubi. Dynamically they are awesome. Probably one of best handling cars out there but power wise they suck. Think only course where they might do well is slower twisty turny where they stay in second gear. But man they are slow in the straights!

Managed to get out to the Toledo ProSolo this morning and catch some of the BRZ's runs. It definitely seemed competitive once it got up to speed but its launches were just awful.

It will be an interesting class with the MSR and ZOK gone especially if the current class leaders switch to a different car and stay with the class. I'm a little surprised the BRZ/FRS can only fit a 245. With the rest of the class on 265's, 285's, or 295's, being able to squeeze the 275 seems critical.

Yes but most of the power is at the very top of the revs. I believe the BRZ redlines 2nd gear at about 58-60mph while the RX-8 is 62-64. It's been a while since I had my RX-8, don't recall all the specifics with it.
You are right the RX-8 hasn't done well at the nationals, but neither has the 370 with the exception of you and one or two others. Of course it is from a much smaller sample size, so who knows. As a former owner of two RX-8s (I traded my 06 in for the 370), I have no idea how the RX-8 is even in the same ballpark. I guess it depends on tight the course is. Quote:

Since the 275/35 is brand new I doubt anyone has used ones they are willing to give up for test fitting. BFG sells a 255/40/17 R1-S which I'm sure would fit but I think the jury is still out if it is a true competitor to the A6. |

I read on another forum Jadrice Toussaint (last years BS national champ) drove someone's BRZ at an event and ended up getting an FR-S the next week. He autocrossed it a couple weeks ago on Hoosiers in an event along with his BS S2000. I guess the car he had was an automatic and he was about 2.5s slower than his BS S2000, but now he has a manual FR-S.
He ran a staggered setup with 245/40/17 on the front and 275/40/17 in the rear. I don't think a staggered setup is going to really be ideal for he car imho, but he was just testing things out. 275/40 gives the car a bit more gearing in 2nd but it's quite a bit taller and I don't know if I'd want to give away that much in a car with such low torque. |
