Default Video of me following a C4S at Barber yesterday

My Hoosiers were shot and slippery and my body was tired from a week of late nights in Cancun, but it was great fun nonetheless! I think if I was well rested and had fresh tires, I could have gone 2-3 seconds faster per lap.

Video was taken with a rented smartycam. I love the way it overlays with the GPS..

Also at the track, a developer was out there beta testing a new track app for smart phones that will do the same stuff. That should be submitted to apple by the end of august for release to the app store. They also have android and windows phone versions they are working on.

I was also a little slower on turn 2 because I was staying in 4th gear to avoid fuel starvation.

See what a leading SCCA T2 350z does around that track and that should be your target. My guess is they run about a 1:45. I've only been once and I love the track. My best is a 1:46.4 in my Prelude and I have the Honda Challenge H2 track record

I can't remember the exact time, but I think a friend with a stopwatch clocked me in the 1:45-1:46 last year on a good day. Great time in the prelude!

Also, Harry's Lap timer for iPhone has GPS time, data logging, and track overlay video with gauges and track map. I like it so much that I ditched my professional DL1 system, which was way too cumbersome IMO.

If you guys ever get into datalogs, take a look at this book. It has good basic information on what you can do to improve your laptimes.

http://lapfaster.com/Portals/0/ebook...free_ebook.pdf

Mike, I don't know if that's how you normally drive or if you just took it easy because of the car in front. You aren't going to hit ice mode hitting the brakes that softly, get on it harder. Car should be able to hit 1G easily under braking, especially on Hoosiers.

I normally hit the brakes very hard, but every time I did, I went into abs because the hoosiers had no grip left in them, so I had to hold back quite a bit. Also got really squirrely in the corners if I went too hard.

When I have had instructors or check rides in the past, they actually say that they aren't normally comfortable with how late and hard I brake, but I have it under control and they are really impressed with the cars braking ability.

was looking at my first session to find some examples of my low grip, but it doesn't really show what I was feeling from the camera. However, I did do a lap at 1:47:35 before I decided I wasn't comfortable with the grip level.

Wheel speed and throttle position can tell 90% of what you need to know.
That's my philosophy anyway.
We ran 36-37s at Barber earlier this year.
If we had our current updated version ... I am pretty sure we would be sub 35's.
1 second at Barber is a huuuuuuuuge chunk of change.
Watchin your video ... U r very smooth.
Your transitions between throttle to brake new to be quicker.
This will do maaaaaaany things.
It will give you a better sense of braking and what the car can really do... an a much clear understanding of how long your braking zones new to be.
Brake earlier And quicker from full throttle to brake... Hard brake.
Your foot speed from pedal to pedal should be quick.
Once you learn the depth and gain confidence in the cars braking and CONSIsTenTLY brake consistent.... then you can work on carrying the brakes deeper.
When going through the kink on the back striaght.... That is where u want to e very smooth with the throttle pedal.
You up shifted to 4th and then came all the way off the gas.
I would say to shift to 4th earlier out of the museum turn.. And when you get ready to enter the kink ease off the throttle but keep 25% throttle to help keep the car settled.
Once you kiss te curbing on the right.... Power down.

thanks! I normally do brake a lot harder and quicker, but I really was only driving at about 80-90% this weekend due to fatigue and I wasn't confident in the tires. I would love to be in the high 1:30s!

Just got a new set of NT-01s mounted today and off to Atlanta Motor Speedway roval this saturday. Should have video, but no overlays since its with my regular camera.
