Solo Fuel Level: Damage Control

Planning to Solo my Z here pretty soon. I ran Solo years ago with an '87 Escort GT, '94 Escort GT, and '95 240SX. After the first time out in the '94 and '95, my fuel level gauges never worked properly again (would read full for ~300 miles then drop). I'm assuming it was due to the fuel level sender being damaged by sloshing. I'd prefer not to replicate this failure mode. Do you guys always run on a full tank? Anyone ever have gauge issues after running tracks?
