Your reservoir became low as your pads wore down. Be careful of overfilling when you swap the OEM pads back on.
Just ignore the miatas. Thy are great cars, but their popularity have turned them into cockroaches. It really gets annoying when they don't get out of the way. This is what you will hear from every Miata owner. "Yo, I can outbrake all these fancy cars, look at how great our Miatas are.
