4 Point Harness and Harness Bar Question

I know, search is my friend. Problem I have is that I can't find any pics or explanations that educate my slow, old mind enough to understand a few things.

Default 4 Point Harness and Harness Bar Question

I know, search is my friend. Problem I have is that I can't find any pics or explanations that educate my slow, old mind enough to understand a few things.

I get that the shoulder straps go through the holes in the back of the seat, and over the harness bar. One thing that puzzles me is on the end of those straps is a heavy metal bracket with a hole in it like it supposed to mount somewhere. I don't think it goes over the harness bar and then all the way down to the floor to mount on maybe the seat bolts ? Other option in looking at some pics is maybe it loops around the harness bar (so would have to have those belts on the harness bar somehow and then mount the harness bar) but if that's the case then the big metal mount things just dangle there ?

Also in my infinite wisdom (sic) I have since learned that NASA and some others will not allow 4 point harnesses in HPDEs ? If I read the rules correctly. If so, is there an easy way to convert a 4 point to a 5 point ? Like an additional add on belt ?

Any input appreciated ... the harness bar is similar to the NRG one.

If you have a true harness bar the mounting type is differnt. Sounds like you have eyelet mounting type sometimes used in cars where belts are mounted into eylets rather than around rear bar. You most definitely want 5 or 6 point harness system when driving track. Worth the investment in a very good 6 point harness like Schroth or top end Simpson. My advice is if you are going out on track don't go cheap on your safety equipment.

^^ Seconded. Don't run a 4pt unless it was designed for your seat/car. The reason for that is without the crotch strap[s] you can slide out of the belts in an accident.

Did you find the instructions I mentioned in PM? They should help you to wrap the belt properly around the harness bar.

I called Corbeau and they said to loop the shoulder straps you have to cut off the ends at the top of the shoulder and use the slider to loop the strap back around the harness bar. Burn the cut end so it melts together and won't fray. That was the biggest thing I couldn't figure out was how to loop it around the bar with those bolt down ends on it ... cutting them off never crossed my mind.

4 point setup is just for looks and AX maybe, have stock belts retained to use for HPDE. Looking at things I can use to add to ASM to the 4 point but that's down the road aways. Or might just go to a 3 inch 5 point.

Ahhhh. With my Schroth and G-Force harnesses the ends were just wrapped on the quick disconnects. I see the issue!

You can get RJS 5pt harnesses for less than $100. Just something to think about.
