What kind of LSD? Did you have cooler on rear diff? They get real hot.

KaienZ34 06-03-2012 09:01 PM

He has an upgraded LSD, i don't remember which one and yes he does have a rear diff cooler.

HKYStormFront 06-03-2012 09:24 PM

what he said. The diff cooler was definitely doing its job too.

Hmm will be intersted knowing what went pop!

they said the grinding in reverse noise was a stuck/hanging up brake pad and the whine is worn gear in the differential. Not sure how it got worn so fast though.

Now the question is, do I change gear ratios? Not sure what to do yet.

HKYStormFront 06-09-2012 07:38 PM

4:10 gear gets my vote  (or is it 4.08?)

KaienZ34 06-09-2012 07:59 PM

I think it 4.08's

So was this worn after the LSD install? Seems it would have to be being this would of obviously been seen when installing. Did the LSD have to be shimmed? Was the backlash checked?

I don't know at this point. All I had was a phone message. Think I will stick with stock gearing, don't want to lose the SRM

i got a quaife installed on my open diff 6 speed.
i noticed it was making the whining sound. so i told the shop that installed it and he said it was normal. so i've driven the car a few hundred miles. also installed new bearings.
i will talk with him and make him fix this, but could the quaife be damaged? will i need new bearings and gears?

clintfocus 05-23-2013 10:53 PM

if your diff is making a whine noises, its because the ring and pinion contact is not correct and the back lash needs to be re checked

Sounds like it wasn't shimmed correctly. Thats why I'm having my shop put it together and not in the car. I've also requested when it is done, that they show me the diff gear painted so I can personally see the contact pattern. Its hit or miss with shops out here in Hawaii.....and we are very limited on choices.

ok. i will need to take off and have them check it.
do you think gears or bearing might have to be replaced?

Daishi9000 05-23-2013 11:01 PM

i had a shop do this install, because i didn't want to screw it up.
but i doubt they checked the backlash like you explain.
