Default How Fast Will A Stock 370Z Go In A Standing Mile?

Okay you racing guys, you are going to have to forgive me for being lame here, but Ohio has this new thing this year where we can do a standing mile at an airstrip in Wilmington Ohio. Until now I've never even considered doing something like this with my Z, but my nephew is trying to talk me into it. There are different safety guidelines etc for cars and what you need depending on how fast you want to go.

The basics go like this.....

0 - 135, a helmet and long clothes
135-150, 5 point harness and suit
150-175, same as 150 I think?
175-200, a lot more stuff that we will not need to worry about
200+ LOL

We have been discussing a little over here East Cost Timing Association but I was afraid the title of that thread wouldn't get the attention to the question I am asking.

Any help you can offer would be great.

Thanks ---- Bonzo

The mile is great. I used to work at a Viper shop in 2008. My bosses landspeed car (over 4000#) managed to squeeze out a 231mph inbetween constantly breaking transmissions trying to run the car anywhere near max boost (1725whp). I think these days guys are going another 20mph in the super cars.

I have no idea what type of MPH people are seeing in normal cars like a Z. On youtube there is a 640rwhp 350z that went 184. I would imagine a stock 370 to fall under 150.

There is, however, a very easy way for you to find out real quick

Bone stock I thought it tops out around 160mph, drag limited. I would guess it to be in the 135-150 range for the standing mile. I'll give it a try in Gran Turismo and let you know, lol.

Well, I wish it were just like that simple. It's like $200 a run plus a membership due I think, and there is another mention of having to use their fuel or something, so that's why I'm trying to check it out. You also have to sign up in advance and they only take 175 drivers a weekend. There is an official rules book that I would need to get, but right now I'm just trying to figure out where I fall in the safety category.

Thanks for your input.

That's kind of what I was thinking, but maybe we are over doing it? But I would think if the 1/4 is like 100-110 that we could get another 20-30 mph out of it in another 3/4 mile. I really have no idea, so that's why I'm asking.

Actually, I'm surprised the first category isn't just 0-150. Going through all the bother just to go 120 totally isn't worth the hassle. Now to go 150; that's different, because that is much harder to do driving down I-75.

But I don't want to have to do the 5 point harness and suit thing if I'm really only going to top out at 130. Heck, I can do that for free somewhere I'm sure.

The added the harness/suit because the standing mile is become more popular across the nation and there have been some bad accidents in the past, so even the slower cars need it.
A bone stock Z will be probably be able to touch 140 or just over that.

I don't condone this vid at all, but it might be helpful in this case to do it safely.

It looks like it's still pulling after 130, hard to tell.

So if it will crack 135, the next question is, what happens at this place when you go over their limit of safety? I sign up for the <135 club and only have a helmet and stock seat belt, but when I get out there I run in the >150 club which requires the suit and a 5 point harness. I'm thinking the most they can do is slap my hand and cancel my membership. I mean they can't expect me to stare down at the speedometer with the pedal on the floor can they?

Hmmmmm????????

I've tach'd mine out to 155 no problem. Once you hit about 138 it takes a little to climb up there. Also depends on other factors, but if it will do it in one mile, hmmm I don't know. I"m bone stock and I don't know if I can hit it at the mile marker.

What I'm curious about is those that lowered it and did mod's: will they still be able to hit top end or did they gain it in the mid-range?

I have done 140 in the standing 1/2 mile at the Carrabelle Speed Festival.
The max based on the Manual gear ratio you may see is maybe 205mph based on the 285/35YR19 Rear Tire.

Gear Ratios (Manual)
1st 3.794
2nd 2.324
3rd 1.624
4th 1.271
5th 1.000
6th 0.794
Reverse 3.446
Final Drive 3.692

Now that in mind you have to bring in the drag coefficient if the Z @ .30 . With that said, I would guess someplace around 177 to 180mph Max.
So Using vehicle Speed of 205 MPH it takes 335.23 HP to overcome air drag.
Rolling resistance is 23.45. (Not 100% sure of)
For a total of 358.68 HP to run 205 MPH

This info is base off the Nismo.

All this take about the 370z being drag limited to 160 is BS. I have been over 160mph in mine on the track. It's just plan BS that it's drag limited to 160mph.

I have gotten it up to 155mph for a decent distance in stock trim base/sport. After 135ish I would really like some additional aero to plant it down at that point. She likes to float above that mark. I think in a standing mile I could come close to 140ish. The 155mph run was from around 60mph.
