Laguna Seca Sound Barrier Requirement Concern

I am planning on going to a HDPE track day at Laguna Seca on July. They have a regulation of 90 dB.

I currently have a Stillen Dual Exhaust paired with Berk High flow cat. I sold my stock exhaust.

Does anyone know if I will pass that regulation? I don't have a sound meter.

Any help? Thanks!

depends on time of day, weather conditions, etc...

my guess?.. be prepared to sort shift up the hill most of the day..

Only stock exhaust would pass, barely...

You'll be fine, that set up when I had it was usually around 87 db, on a wet day.

You'll be fine. I have the Stillen CBE and Berk HFCs as well and there wasn't any problem.

Just short shift past the sound shack and pin it everywhere else.

Shamu 05-17-2012 10:38 PM

Yeah you should be fine. As you head towards t6 lift as you go by sound shack if you have issues. My Nismo with berk cats and Nismo exhaust had no issue at all. Way below 90 db. If you can fashion a couple of bent stove pipes on tips and face them away from sound shack that might help if you on the edge. Tone of Z however seems to work better than other cars.

thanks a lot guys...my friend tracks with his 350Z that has straight pipe & Greddy Exhaust and has no problem. I don't know how that compares to the Stillen. I thought Stillen was one of the quieter ones already. But of course I think the Nismo one is a little quieter as it's still OEM factory stuff.
My friend also suggests to build a 90° elbow pipe which can point away from the sound station. HAHA, i might look into that.

I thought the stock one runs around 84 dB.

I contacted Stillen and they replied that it conforms with CA sound laws & any exhaust will be louder than 90 dB with a High Flow Cats.

Leguna Seca is having a 92 DB day on May 19th. Do you think F.I. non-res will make the cut???

I'd be interested to know too...do you have HFC or TP b/c that would also increase the sound by a bit.

I've been wanting a F.I. non-res CBE for awhile but Laguna is the only reason I didn't swap it. I currently have Berk HFC and Stillen CBE (12" resonator) and it barely meets it. I guess in the near future if I could save up for the F.I. Non-res that can be my everyday setup and the Stillen can be my Laguna setup.

My friend's E92 Dinan Exhaust w/ a straight pipe does not pass the sound check and has to lift off every time at that turn - I guess worst case you can always do that.

Good luck with that!

Nope, just regular stock cats.

Leguna usually has track days were the limit is in the 80s, but at 92 I'm hoping I'll pass.

Shamu 04-02-2013 04:01 PM

All you guys without stock are going to be close to limit or over on a 90 day. 92 days will work typically with some sort of resonated muffler system. Just depends on weather conditions and sound monitoring booth staff.

I bolted my stock muffler on my car with long tube headers and passed 92 db day.

bigdog1250 04-02-2013 06:25 PM

Has anyone on here with F.I. not passed? And if so, what was the limit that day (or better yet what did they measure you at?).
