I bought two accesories to go with Harry's IPhone App
1.emprum UltiMate GPS 5kz- for improved positioning accuracy at speed ~$90 2. PLX Devices OBDII Wi-Fi-~$150 plugs into OBDII port- exports tons of data to IPhone- speed, throttle, MAF, RPM.....you can print out an enitre spreadsheet of data Great track feedback. Had been looking at other more expensive stuff but i always wanted to spend that type of cash on track day first- for the handful of times I go this is a great low cost option that is feature rich. All HANDS FREE- set in paddock and it automatically starts video when you cross start stop at speed |

I used my IPhone and a cheapie app (price wise) called Track Addict HD I downloaded for 5 bucks recently. It has PLX and ODBII functionality as well but I didn't use it. I made the mount for like 10 bucks. While mine is functional and serves it's purpose, it pales in comparison to your set up and output. Very nice !

Simple suction cup/ aligator clip mount on windsheild- I modified slightly by wrapping pipe insulation and some electrical tape to stiffen up mount and take out shake- it is pretty stable

The software has a adjustable delay setting on OBDII data- it is presently set at 1 second (default) This is my first use so left alone- I assume to do some buffering of data- in advanced settings you can go to 0 - I will probably set at 0.5 when I go to NJMP at the end of May

Yeah that, IMHO, is the main problem with any iPhone-based solution: your data has to come over wifi, and so the latency and sync on that has to be fixed somehow. The equivalent Android-based setups use Bluetooth to talk to the OBD-II (and GPS), and the data's pretty decently synced already just because there's not much latency to begin with.
Harry's should be able to export vid+obd+gps data to RaceRender 2 Video Processor as well, and then you can render with a nice custom layout, and RR2 makes it easy to fix sync issues as well. Another random thing you may have noticed: Harry's is probably using the standard "Throttle Position" OBD-II code, which is actually unrelated to gas pedal position on our car (it reflects butterflies + VVEL info). There actually is a non-proprietary code for Accel Pedal Pos which would be more-useful on our cars. I can see it in any OBD-II app for the Android, except for my Harry's-equivalent (aLapRecorder) which uses the bad "Throttle" like Harry's does. |

I've been comparing some of the more expensive solutions for a while now off and on. IMHO, for road race type stuff with decent video and data, I now lean towards RaceKeeper. It's just that for the cash I'd spend on the core unit + accessories and the time to install... there's a lot of other items on the backlog for the car that take precedence

It might seem simple to a lot of you professional drivers with tons of track time ... But for a noob like me just starting out I think I can still learn a lot from an inexpensive, slow, slightly out of sync application. Still provides valuable feedback.
