Autocross beginner needs new street/autocross tires

Hey all,

So I'm just getting started with autocross and it also happens that I need new tires. While I do plan on doing autocross once or twice a month, my main desire is for some good street tires. I'm currently still on my stock Bridgestone Potenza 275/35 R19 96W and 245/40 R19 94W, which I actually enjoyed reasonably well. I'm not looking to spend a ton, just want to get something that will be reasonable for both situations. Open to any suggestions and comments!
EDIT: 2009 Coupe Touring Sport

Ebay time

There are 2 305/30/19 Bridgestone RE-11's for sale on ebay right now for $163. I am running this same rear tire right now.

Regardless of what any forum tire expert will tell you, they will fit!

You better buy them before I do.

If you can't find any fronts used. Buy a set of 265 or 275 19's new. You will have saved a ton of cash.

Those ebay tires are a great price, but I'm looking for something to replace my current bald tires. If I had an extra set of wheels I'd be all over those though!

Op look into Hankooks or Conti Extreme dw. What is a ton to you? Some people value rubber more than others.

Was hoping to stay somewhere around $1k if possible. If paying more really makes a big difference then I'm willing to push that up a bit.

Have you looked at Dunlop Direzza Star Specs? They work great for both types of driving.

cossie1600 04-19-2012 08:15 AM

they don't come in 19s

There was never an argument on whether or not 305's would fit. The argument was does it make the car feel squishy and roll around corners. Why go with such a large tire?

how about my hoosier A6's as your 2nd set????

cossie1600 04-19-2012 12:22 PM

Also shameless plug for a pair of my 265 35 19, they have 2/32nd on them RE11... $60 for the pair?

Bald RE11s will outrun any Continential DW you have in the dry. Save your money and buy real autox tires if you want to win, else you are wasting your time and money
