370z Autocross/HPDE
I am planning on buying a 370z in the near future, and after the basic track requirements (oil cooler, brake pads/lines, fluids) I will be doing some autocross/HPDE's and eventually a racing school. I will just be focusing on driving ability for a while, getting experience, and learning as much as possible.
The question I have (after doing some research) is whether the issues I have been hearing about (such as brake ice mode and fuel starvation) are a serious concern as I begin to push the car harder. I understand that I may not have big problems with these for a while, but I just want an honest opinion of whether or not these are actually going to cause major problems. The ice mode seems to be a safety concern under fast hard braking (the car will also be dd so I won't be installing an abs race system). The fuel starvation is not actually nearly as big of a concern after seeing some potential fixes, but I also have not heard of many success stories. I may just be making a big deal out of something I should not be concerned about, and eventually this may be a track only car anyway so these fixes will be possible (when street legality will not be an issue). What do those of you that do autocross/HPDE's think? Is it no big deal to adapt and deal with it? Thanks |

Has anyone found a way around it even by spending money? I've seen multiple times on multiple threads with people saying stuff like "pray you stop in time", but what about the cars in front of you? It seems like the only smart solution at this point is to make the car a track only car so that the brake issue can be fixed or a dd only. Otherwise it will be a hindrance on autocross and dangerous for others at events which other street legal cars are on the track for (I put myself at risk but other people should not be dealing with my car issues).
I hoping for someone to tell me I am actually missing something and am wrong... |

Learn how to deal with ice mode if it occurs. Don't panic. Release your brake and try again. I have yet to experience it myself so that may be easier said than done.

I may have found my own answer:
Autocross to Win (DGs Autocross Secrets) - ABS It seems that once the abs has hit, the rate at which the car slows down is a constant, but understanding this limit will make it possible to slow down faster. I'm wondering if the "ice mode" of this vehicle is preventable like this or if it is worst than regular abs. Thanks! |

Read the ice mode thread on page two of this track forum- consensus is: Modulate the initial pedal pressure i.e. don't SLAM on the brakes into corners (hard to avoid in Autocross), and don't run overly grippy pads like carbotech XP14 or higher. Disable ABS if the class you are running allows it. This is a second year issue- you might not run into it for a while. We hope you make it out to CA for some HDPE's sometime. Willow Springs is a blast, they take really good care of us out there. Buttonwillow is about 100 miles farther but I've heard good things.
