Fuel Starvation. It finally happened to me.
 

At the track in Chukwalla Valley =(


I figured that 7 dots was rnough but on the same turn on two laps I completely lost power. Wasn't sure what it wad the first time but after happening again on the same turn prety sure it was fuel. After going to the area to get more fuel it went back up to four dots.

Also saw 2 other guys with 370z as well as sone 350z's but haven't talked to any of them yet

Yep and it sucks. Hopefully spring time are fix will be here. If not I'm buying a fuel cell

But another forum member named Phunk is working on a solution. He's been working with fuel systems for a long time. He's been around Z's for awhile that I know of. He's been working hard on this with lots of trial and error so bare with the issue. He'll get it done.

I guess I was lucky as the sensation was like VDC kicking in. Not catastrophic thankfully.

Yep, that's what it felt like to me too. My instructor even asked if my traction control was on, I was just like "nope, that's that fuel starvation issue I was telling you about", :rofl2:. So annoying having to fuel up every two sessions (at Sebring at least).

I had fuel starvation at Chuckwalla running clockwise, especially around the 'carousel' ... great track, bet you had fun regardless!!

I nearly got hit the first time it happened to me. Luckily the fella behind me on the track was wide awake.

Yeah it was great Fun. I believe we were counter-clockwise so probalby a different turn? it was a right hander. Didn't happen again once I added another 11 gallons of gas heh (almost full tank). Actually here is the video:

My sessions were a bit weak but first time ever on a track and I kept the VDC on. Next time I go there I will try it with it off. Atleast I was doing better than another 370z there who wouldn't let me pass on the second session =P

You did a good job of following a bit closer to the proper line on the corkscrew vs the two drivers you were following... my general advice would be, however, that you need some track instruction and that the fuel starvation is not the thing holding you back right now... just keep the tank topped off (bring a 5 gal jug or two) and you'll be A-Okay. biggest things I see are 1) not using the whole track... talk with your instructor about proper "track out" when you come off an apex and 2) steering controls are harsh, especially going through apex where g's are peak you need to be exceptionally smooth... I can't see what's going on with your feet but the brake pedal should be handled like a baby that you gently stroke and the throttle more like an on-off switch that is gradually turned on and off... I know you didn't ask for driver input, but there it is

Stuff flying around your cabin is a no-no at the track... papers and untied cables, etc can be a big deal for the car behind you or you if things turn ugly

Also, good idea to try driving with no VDC - that will help you learn faster... and Chuckwalla is just the track for it, as it has runoff room galore... just keep in mind it is easy to find yourself hooked up with another chunk of flesh and metal with VDC off so watch your mirrors especially if you spin around noob's they may not know how to respond

Just curious, what group was it you were running with? No offense, but an instructor would be very beneficial for you. Honestly, I wouldn't run with any group that doesn't force a new driver to have an instructor with them.

Yeah I am sure an instructor would be beneficial but its not like tracking will be something I do all the time. Honestly for my first time ever tracking and on that course my best lap time of the day was 2:21.1 which was on the high end for level2 (which is the novice level) was pretty decent especially cause I kept VDC on. I know I could shave atleast another couple seconds without VDC.

Honestly I don't even know if I will go on the track again its just something I have always wanted to do and liked the chuckwalla's layout. I did think it was quite fun though. Also I was taking it significantly faster than this other 370z (black) who didn't signal for me to pass for over an entire lap on session 2.

That other Z's best laptime for that session was:

You've got about 24 seconds to catch up to the best 370z time at that track, so yeah, plenty of room for improvement... still glad you had fun (:

You joke, right? I watched your video's mister 10k+ RPM Z with slicks =P

My car doesn't even compare. There was a heavily modified 911 GT2 there that day that had roll bar's and most of the interior torn out and even that thing was not breaking 2 minutes.

Realistically I think with my current Z's setup (which IMHO has worse track tires than a stock 370z sports package) with its biggest mod being an oil cooler would be maybe 10 seconds faster than I got (no way 20). Can't even compare a near-stock Z to your monster travisjb =P

I definitely know there is tons of room for improvement. I mean hell someone did as so good on their first time on a track to where they didn't have plenty of room for improvement I then something is wrong =P I am pretty satisfied with the time I did get for a first-timer. That being said I am very curious as to what someone with a relatively stock 370z can get on Chuckwalla Valley who unlike me has lots of track experience on their Z.
