Is this a hot temp for a track? What is considered hot? What temp does the Z hit "limp mode"?

Also, would our Z's run hotter at autoclub since its a faster track?

I did an SCCA autox level 1 school in 80 degree temps today. Peak temperature of the day was around 83. Since it was a school we did many runs. With 6 quick runs mostly right on top of each other my oil temp went up to about 245. This was a large course so runs were completed in around 70 to 75 seconds. So it got toasty but not toasty enough to go into limp mode.

I was wondering about this too. Well an oil cooler is a pretty easy mod/fix so...

AAA speedway is the track that led me to stop tracking my car for a while and install an oil cooler. AAA is extremely taxing on your car-all aspects of it. Very high speeds and RPMs. If you want to experience limp mode, AAA can easily do it to your car.

I had an '09 Z and on autoclub it went into limp mode towards the end of the day. it was a trooper for a few heats in the morning.

I now have a 20012 model and since the 2012 models came with an "oil cooler" Nissan claims, I am wondering how it will work at autoclub. I know an aftermarket Oil Cooler is better. I am a casual track day guy, 3-4 times a year. Do about a 2:12 around autoclub. Nothing crazy.

I regularly autoX with my 2014 and I usually see temps around 230-240 after a run, nothing to worry about there, even on a hot day. I did however go to a track day at palmer motorsports park in MA on friday. Temps were in the mid 80s all day and I ran 4 30 minute sessions. At the end of my 4th session, oil temp was at 275! An oil cooler is certainly going on my car ASAP

2:12's on a cooler day on a '12 + will be OK. Once your times start to drop below 2:06ish, yeah you will hit limp mode no problem, even on an overcast day.

It's really just a decision you have to make depending on like you mentioned, how many days and how hard are you going to go.

I ran my stock oil-coolered 2012 at a track day in Vegas a few weeks ago (2.4 mile road course). Ambient temps around 80-85 and sunny all day. I would do about 3-4 laps, temps would shoot up to 270+, no limp mode, run a slower lap to cool down, get the temp back to 260, run another couple laps until it got hot again.... Lather, rinse, repeat, all day long. Bonus fun: Pop your hood in the pits and watch your power steering fluid boil.

So yes, you can run your stock car at the track all day and generally be fine as long as the ambient temps aren't too hot. But let's face it, as soon as you run one track day you'll immediately become addicted and start modding your car for the track - the first mod will always be an oil cooler.

Speaking of cooling - does anybody run the Z1 power steering cooler? Any reviews? Or other suggestions for a good PS cooler? That's next on my list after the oil cooler.

Thanks good to know! I took my last Z '09 to the track and have been addicted ever since. I am looking to install FI CBE & Stillen Gen 3 CAI. Then maybe tune it a bit. I'll try a track day with that without and oil cooler (aside from the "factory one") and see how it does. If its getting a little toasty, I guess it goes without saying what the next mod will be. I want to give the factory oil cooler a fair shake before I just simply get a new one.

Thanks for the advise!

The factory cooler seems like it does nothing. Nothing at all. My temps immediately shoot over 220 as soon as I get 'spirited' in my driving, and if it lasts more than 20 seconds it gets up to 240. I live in Vegas, so it's usually hot as sh!t out here. I'm getting a big 34 row oil cooler to keep things in check.
