Bad luck? good luck? Profound change to my 350z !!!
It all started with hurrican Irene. Just after I got a brand new transmission from Nissan, & a new ACT clutch, my car was swallowed by a wave of water that was released by the Neversink reservoir. I was driving it at the time(don't ask. They claimed that concern of reservoir failer/collapse forced them to release the water.
Anyway, State Farm classified it as total loss. Not to me! Since I just got a NEW trans, a New ACT clutch, & an engine that I babied. It's true I drag raced it, but for the other 39k/40k miles I shifted at 2k rpm, changed Mobil 1 every 1,500 to 2,000 miles & NEVER street raced it. I immediatly changed the oil 3 times, and trans/gear oil as well. Avoided any damage to drivetran, but the computer/harnesses ????? State Farm offered me rediculous amount of money. It was more than I paid for the car almost 2 years ago. I made a deal with State Farm to buy my car before it went to auction. Now it was a question of what to do. Change wires harnesses/computer/new tune, should I do some work to engine? Spend money to get one or two tenths in performance OR do an SL swap. I DECIDED ON AN LS SWAP! Buying a used LS & rebuiding it, adding bolt ons, taking 6 months, having local shops do the trial & error build, spending money on a used engine just didn't make sense to me. It's only about 30% more in cost to get a brand new engine with a 2 year warrenty. It's also 100% better in saving all that aggravation, & you have the engine in days not month/years. Now came the decision, should I build a 10 second car, roll cage & all, or a completely streetable car that I can enjoy every day, go to the track on weekends & do 11.5 in the 1/4 mile & have almost no worry of breakage at the track. My choice, 11.5 second bracket racer that I can enjoy 7 days a week. After carefull selection, I chose the perfect(in my opinnion) LS engine, the perfect auto(no worry of rear end breakage(consistant times) transmission. I also chose "THE BEST" shop to do this type of work. I'm going to be silent on engine & trans information till swap is completed(the auto trans. is a 3 speed for racing and a 4th gear for highway driving. I'm the only one that I know off that uses this trans. More info to come. Thanks for reading my story. Happy ending???? Last edited by andre12031948; 10-02-2011 at 05:07 PM. |

I would have avoided all the potential problems that come with a car that has been in a flood and move to something new with no water damage but thats me.
Good Luck with LS swap and hope you have many miles of trouble free |

Ye, I thought about getting another car. A low mileage 08 Vette was in my thoughts. That would have been the smart thing to do, but in no time I'd be bored. Drag racing is fun for me, & I'm good at it. I'm replacing everything, & it was fresh water. The engine spins like a top. The only damage that I see is in the electric/harnesses system. I hope Last edited by andre12031948; 10-02-2011 at 09:11 PM. |

Andre, good project. I sold my Z as well and now im buying a CTS-V with the LSA motor. I would only assume the the ecu's and clusters are wasted as for the harness it will be fine since its fresh water. Since you flushed the trans no issues there , dont forget the diff. As for the engine pulls the spark plugs and crank the engine over to make sure no water is in the combustion chamber. after that put a little auto trans fluid down the spark plug holes and crank it over as it will coat everything and keep it from forming surface rust. Was it running when it went under water?

Hi, I'm glad you're doing well.

That's a nice car you're buying. Lux. plus 12 seconds 1/4 mile. My engine with headers, exhaust, & a tune should give me similiar H.P as your car. I guess I can always add a supercharger later. I want to do 11.5 bracket racing. It's fun racing a whole bunch of different cars. I won a couple of trophies with a broken 2nd. gear trans. At some of the big import meets, I can have 70/80 cars in one class. Racing against them & winning is much more fun then just time runs. nice to hear from you |
