370z vs 2011 -10 M3

My buddy sold his Z and got a new 400 hp M3.
We will be drag racing at day 2 of the ontario Z drag day on Sept 24 at St Thomas raceway.

so we will see who is quicker.
the M3 or a fully modified N/A 370 z ( 7 AT)

the track is not good for traction. My best time there is a 12.67 with @ 1.95 60 ft.
I usually get 1.85 60 ft times.

It should be a good race.

hope fully i can get into the 12.4's and give him a good run.

Z

red6spd 09-02-2011 09:55 AM

You should beat him. There is a 6spd Z in my area with similar mods as you including the gears and he puts the beat down on the M3 all the time.

somatic 09-02-2011 09:56 AM

 good luck

leighspped 09-02-2011 09:59 AM

sounds like fun, let us know

Really? You dont think it can happen? Dont post on this thread if you dont know what your talking about. The M3 does 0-60 in like 4.3ish seconds and pulls off a like a 12.7 in the quarter. We have STOCK 7AT Z's running 12.9. So with all the mods he has yea he will probably walk it with a good run.

sboden 09-02-2011 10:04 AM

I have no doubt he can but as we all know these things have tons of variables with the biggest being the driver. I've read enough of the OP's posts that I'm not worried about him giving a good run depending on the M3 driver. It will either be a close run (M3 driver good) or a blow away by the OP....just my opinion though.

:facepalm:good luck This means "good luck it will be close" Really? Seems more like "your stupid, good luck cause your gonne need it" Maybe you need a few more lessons on how to post on a forum.

maybe you need to stop being so defensive.
Back on topic: Good luck with the race OP, and please post results :tiphat:

djpathfinder 09-02-2011 10:21 AM

Is it a stock M3? You might have trouble with a modded M3. Good luck and have fun spanking his ***.

There are a few. Check the 1/4 mile thread.

m4a1mustang 09-02-2011 10:42 AM

Steve has his 370 set up for drag racing. It really should be a no contest win for the Z in this case. Steve's very consistent.

Dude, calm down and take your own advice. Stop taking every post as a threat and as something full of hate. Your just looking to start a fight now.

Yeah I did it once and ONLY ONCE! A lot of it was mostly luck and just perfect conditions at the time. Best time outside of that was a 13.2 stock, but only had 4 runs that day. There is one other person who has done 12.9 stock, but I don't know if that was only once or if he was able to do it multiple times.

My friend just got an 08 M3 6MT as well and he bought his with an exhaust. I have an exhaust and will hopefully have intakes on soon too. We are going to the drag strip later this month so I will let you guys know how it goes. I know he's going to be faster than me, but I'm more interested in how much the difference is. Not sure how good of a driver he is though. I will say that last time I went out there I did consistently better than 2 Camaro SS's.

Exactly my thoughts. Maybe if the M3 had a couple mods it would be close, but stock M3 doesn't have a chance.

m4a1mustang 09-02-2011 10:44 AM

Even stock for stock the 7AT has a good shot when it's up against an MT. 7AT has launch and consistency on it's side. It's nearly impossible to have a bad run, whereas it's very easy for an MT driver to botch a launch or shift.

V8Killer 09-02-2011 10:44 AM

Good luck buddy give'em he'll i'm sure you'll be fine.

I've done it before :p

Well not really a terrible run I guess, just terrible compared to my normal runs. 13.8 was worst I've ever done, it was a run full of wheel spin.

A facepalm is not the end of the world. He also wished him luck, which you somehow took as a negative.

Anyways I don't want to get into this here. Sorry for going off topic Z elim :tiphat:

Yea definitely let us know how it goes. Always been curious about that. Where I live is BMW land... What mods do you have? Just the exhaust?

Yes just the exhaust for now, but I should have Stillen G3 intakes by the time I get out there. Don't know if it will make much of a difference or not, but I'm running on all season tires.

Thanks for the support guys.
will post times and vid's

Here is a pic of my 2003 stillen SC, 5 At with line lock doing a burn out.
Hard to belive that with 3.53 gear it only runs 13.03's
The 370 is a way better car but the 350Z up to 100 km. is really quick.

The 370 now has line lock.

phunk 09-02-2011 02:52 PM

a lightly tuned and modified 370z being driven by someone who has lots of experience drag racing that exact car MIGHT beat a brand new stock M3 (driven by someone who just bought the car) down the 1/4 mile.

but the M3 is still the faster car. and everyone knows it.

Close to what I said....but the OP has the experience...does the M3 driver in this instance.

I don't think Z elim's car counts as lightly modified ;)

I would love to see a dyno of the G3's after an exhaust is on it. I went with the HPS tubes just because people have said the gains of the intake after a exhaust mods is minimal especially with the costs... If I had proof that the G3's after exhaust mods did a significant HP Boost, id snatch them up...

Don't want to pay for before/after dyno's since I will be doing install myself (more like Kirkster doing most of the work :p) instead of at a shop. Send me the money and I will do it :p

lol ahha, exactly why nobody has those dynos!!

Z eliminator 09-02-2011 04:09 PM

The G'3 gave me 20 rwhp SAE. base line was 264 after the intakes 284. with out changing the tune on the car

have the dyno chart for it.

now i really want to get it...anyone want to sell me thirs for $200? lol

esfourteen 09-02-2011 05:11 PM

Completely stock m3's are fast. In order to beat a stock m3 in a straight line you need literally every bolt on you can do to the Z (see my sig) without boost. Keep in mind that will BARELY have you pull on the m3, they are fast stock. At the track it will be a drivers race, zelim will likely win due to experience.

atx370z 09-02-2011 05:19 PM

My money is on the M3.

Edit: Only because i like to root for the underdog.

Z eliminator 09-02-2011 08:02 PM

oh i know he has a fast car. if i had the $ i would buy a M6.
but the Z is a good car. i have 305 35 18 drag radials at at 23 lbs they hook hard.
when ever GTM gets my stage 2 SC to me , this car is going to be a living hell to deal with on the 1/4 mile. 11.4's or better.
my goal is to beat a GTR in tghe 1/4 mile.
and yes i know how to drag race. It all going to be over in the first 60 ft. when the 4.08 gear go through first and 2nd gear. 2nd gear is the gear of punishment for my opostion as the car just fly's.
are you giving odds
Im glad you guys are ejoying this thread.
