Need some help for a Z vs 2000 Camaro showdown
Alright guys this is the thing. My buddy has a 2000 camaro with exhaust and a cam. The car is expected to have 380-400whp. His car is expected to be a mid 12 sec car. Now his launches average 2.2 and up for his 60fter. His car is about 200lbs heavier than my vehicle stock. The big factor, my buddy is 400lbs himself.
Now to my car. As of right now my baseline dyno is 285whp stock. Parts that will be installed are F.I. LTH, TDX CBE 18"resonators, Stillen UD pulley, oil cooler, g3 intake, NST overdrive alternator pulley, JWT clutch and flywheel combo. Tires are going to be RE-11's. 265/35F 285/25R on 19"Rays. Now as of about 3 weeks ago I am down to 180. The aftermarket parts will drop about 48lbs off the car. My 60fters are not the best either seeing as I have only driven at the track twice ever in my life. I think my best was a 2.1 I know I have an uphill battle but am I missing anything to help me out in this situation?

Ya I feel the edge obviously is in his favor but with the weight difference he is heavier. Right now he is sitting 600lbs heavier than me so I am hoping that plays into my favor.

Drag Radials will cut .5 off your time most likely... Thats your best shot... You sure he has 380-400 though?

No it is a rough estimate. I am not sure if he will dyno it. The guy he bought it from had two other modifications done to the vehicle but took them off so I am unsure and this is a number that my buddy and I came up with. My buddy is been in the car business for a few years and said he feels 370 out of the car and from driving it a mid 12 car. He said if I can get a good launch he won't be able to catch up. Right now I am looking at a nitrous kit. We will see what happens.

LOL Ya maybe, I know it sounds crazy but he has been in the racing scene for a long time and is usually on the money. I should make some money off him

Race him yet? Just do it. From a dig who ever launches better will win. But all things equal I say ull have a good shot at walking him.
But I say this going by my Zs speed. Not sure how quick stock Ish Zs are, mine wasn't stock for long. I forget haha

Nope not yet. I am still in Afghanistan. I get home mid Sept. The first weekend I am home we are going to the track so that gives me 3 days till the weekend to get used to driving my car with all the new mods. Does your Z have similar mods that mine will have shortly? For some reason I feel like I will walk him but I don't want to think that I like being the underdog.

Yea I dont think he is making 380-400whp with just those mods. Your gonna get your Z Tuned as well correct?

O ya it will be tuned properly. I mean his other 2000SS was weak sauce with full bolt ons. Then again I dunno a cam can make a hell of a difference in those cars. I will say this his weight has to make a difference. His other 2000 SS was about 350whp and tq. I think the best he could do was a 13.4. When my buddy Jamie jumped in he got a 12.9. I am sure he had a decent 60fter too.

red6spd he will most def make those numbers w that motor. those motors are crazy. my buddy has one in his 89 GTA they sell a kit thats heads and a cam and the car make around 550 rwhp (proven all over f-body forums and magizines), they are about 300rwhp stock.
As a referance to the OP. I did a run w a 2010 camaro SS (dont know if it was a stick or auto) and i took him by about maybe 2 cars? in a little over a 1/4 mile. on paper those cars are faster. Your buddies BIGGEST problem is hooking up. I had a 95 Firebird that put around 350 to the wheels and i could barely get it to hook up with nitto DR and a some susp work, Shocks, springs, LCA, LCA relocators, and other ods and ends. His car also weights 400lbs more stock for stock. I think it should be a good race. If he hooks youll have a problem if he spins half of first gear or has a bad lanuch u got him. just my $.02 |
