The trick with auto-x is trying to convey the movement and action. Try to mix it up a little bit. It is easier to shoot with the car generally coming towards you although not pointing at you, as this makes it easier to compose some background into the shot (cones etc) to illustrate the scene. Shooting from side-on is harder as your target is moving more quickly and you have to pan, plus your going to blur the background which is good and bad. Don't be afraid to tilt the camera a little, the horizon doesn't always have to be level. Take lots of pit area pictures as this is your chance to be creative as you have more time to compose and find interesting things.
