AM Perf. made a small batch of of them before they went out of business. Over $1000 each I believe. Those who have them, are not selling them. GTM is making a new pan for their new turbo kit. Might want to wait on it.

Yeah there's none of them available that I'm aware of. It would be a good item for another vendor with a good CNC setup to replicate. Don't have to copy it exactly, just make up your own part that serves the same purpose and functions similarly. There's definitely a market for the track guys. Keeping up oil pressure at high revs in a high-G sweeper while VVEL is using up pressure to boot is important.

I thought I heard Doran Racing was attempting to get this design for their car and then possibly sell them.

Don't forget the stock oil pump, it is a weak link with high temps and constant high RPM's. The billet replacement is $342 part # 15010-RRZ3C1 ordered through courtesyparts from Nissan Motorsports. It looks like it is a bit of a bitch to replace since you have to pull the timing cover and chain to get to it. See Repair manual section LU-10.

The Greddy oil pan is a gimmicky pan. Don't get me wrong i like the company and many of thir products. But the baffles in that pan aren't going to do anything productive. Keep in mind that the oil pickup is in the middle of that, sucking the oil out. So all those baffles can do at best is restrict oil from getting to the pickup... Because any oil they are "trapping" is going to have been sucked out immediately.
A functional baffled pan, unless you have good depth to work with (not a VQ), has to have moving parts. One way doors, like the pan this thread is about. |

Not sure if I ever mentioned it on this forum or not.., and it doesn't apply to the VQ at all but is interesting none-the-less... Some years back I used to only build vipers. The factory race viper called the "competition coupe" had a oil pickup kit that we would order to install on street vipers converted to race duty.
It was a swinging pickup! It had a little rudder build into the pickup head and a swivel joint at the top of the tube. It would follow the oil around inside the pan! Pretty trick although I always wondered how many years it would last until it seized up. The viper engine has the worst oil pan setup a racer could ask for as it has a massive floor plan and very shallow... With no room to go down due to ground clearance. |
