Autobahn CC full course with MVP

Had a great track day yesterday with MVP Tracktime at Autobahn CC. This was my first time running the full course and damn it was fun. Here are a couple videos from the day. The first is a composite of some more interesting moments. I included a couple bits from Turn 5 where the Z likes to get a bit loose and of some of the other cars in the session (GT3, R8 V10, dying Ferrari Testarossa, pair of STIs, etc etc). The second video is of a fuel cut that caught me off guard the first time it happened (notice my head and camera lurching forward). That was with a 3/4 tank of fuel.

BTW, loving the RE-11s!

Were you driving with the VDC on?

Brazilbro 06-07-2011 11:18 PM

Awesome camera position :driving:

VDC off the whole time. I'm definitely liking the helmet gopro mount for track days.

I didn't see the light, thought you had it on.

You have a harness? My head moves too much when I drive, can never get a steady head position

Nice job, you were hitting the apex's better than JB which is why you were faster.

You're right, I'm still learning, only my Second trackday with the Z. I have to say, during the last session I was hitting apex's better then in the video. Nowhere nere perfect, but there is progress ;) Practice makes perfect, too bad I have to wait until October before I can do another trackday.

Nevertheless, this was a hell of a lot of fun. For anyone that never did a trackday before, I can highly recommend it. Oh, and make sure you have a buddy that can make nice videos like this

If that was only your second day then you're doing pretty good. Keep it up!

No one noticed my new $10 Home Depot driving/work gloves :).

I did actually. I don't think they will pass the FIA requirements but they have a lot of feel which is nice. My driving gloves are a bit thicker than I would like. Plus we have to wear a fire suit or at the very least long sleeves, it can get pretty hot after 20 minutes.

What size oil cooler and what temps where you hitting? Great driving. Like the camera mount.

spearfish25 06-10-2011 08:50 PM

I'm using a Setrab 25 row. Oil temps maxed at ~250F when pushing it, and it was scorching hot out. About 90F ambient, 106F on track.

nice driving Alex, you have now joined the starvation club!

Just a newb question, how bad does the front end get beat up from tracking the Z?

As in: rock chips? You can try to stay far enough from other cars, but that won't be easy and it's no fun. I'd say get a clear bra. I have one and my 2009 font end is as good as new.

spearfish25 06-11-2011 08:09 AM

The only time I had noticeable rock/debris issues was when I was following a Porsche 911 with R-comps during a short follow the leader bit. That thing was slinging rocks like crazy.

Great shots and a lot of good advice. I will try an exterior mount as well as the inside, rear window mount. I think I move my head too much for the helmet mount. The quality is good and it is a great way to improve your line.

Thanks!
